Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have quickly positioned themselves as the “progressive” wing of Britain’s royal family, which has reportedly created a public relations disaster for Buckingham Palace, according to royal insiders.
“Royal experts griped about everything from the Sussexes’ private jet use to Duchess Meghan allegedly courting the press to ‘break the Internet‘ with her guest-edited edition of Vogue U.K.’s September issue,” reports Fox News.
The Vogue U.K. September issue that Meghan Markle guest-edited packs a whole lot of woke punch between the magazine’s thin pages, from its feminist messaging to the inclusion of transgender actor Laverne Cox as a cited “woman of impact.”
“We are excited to announce that within the issue you’ll find: An exclusive interview between The Duchess and former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, a candid conversation between The Duke of Sussex and Dr Jane Goodall, inspirational articles written by Brené Brown, Jameela Jamil and many others,” Vogue announced at the time. “Equally, you’ll find grassroots organisations and incredible trailblazers working tirelessly behind the scenes to change the world for the better.”
Lady Colin Campbell, who has authored several books about the royal family, told Page Six that Markle’s media stunt shows that she is writing her own script, despite the fact she is a “minor player” in the royal pool.
“[The couple’s recent behavior is] a public relations disaster for Buckingham Palace, who are having a hard time reining them in,” said Campbell. “Meghan is clearly calling the shots, but she’s a minor operator who is playing in the big leagues and mucking it up in the most catastrophic fashion.”
On top of Markle’s Vogue extravaganza, the couple recently faced severe criticism for appearing hypocritical in their travel arrangements. Despite being avid environmentalists to the point of vowing to have only two children, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle traveled on a private jet two times in just one week while preaching about the purported terrors of climate change.
“I spend 99% of my life traveling the world by commercial [flights]. Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family [is] safe,” Harry said in response to the critics. “We can all do better and while no one is perfect, we all have a responsibility for our own individual impact. The question is what we do to balance it out.”
The backlash became so intense that singer Elton John had to speak up in their defense, denouncing the critics as “malicious.”
“I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week,” said John. “Prince Harry’s Mother, Diana Princess Of Wales was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death.”
Elton John asserted that he provided the private jet to ensure the couple’s security and protection, adding that the flight was “carbon neutral.”
“After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home,” John continued. “To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight. To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint.”
