Report: CNN Devoted Far More Coverage To Republican Senator’s Trial Than Menendez Trial

   DailyWire.com

CNN has exposed itself as a left-wing propaganda network since the election of President Trump, as evidenced by one of their reporters threatening to doxx the creator of a gif and the obnoxious ramblings of alleged journalist Jim Acosta. Adding to the evidence of CNN’s bias is a new report highlighting how little coverage they’ve provided of the trial of Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) compared to that of former Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) in 2008.

Let’s compare the nature of the trials between Stevens and Menendez. Stevens was on trial in 2008 over allegations of concealing “that he had not paid full value for renovations to his modest Alaska cabin,” per a Roll Call editorial. Not only were the allegations against him false, the prosecutors were later found to have “concealed compelling evidence from the defense” that would have helped Stevens. The late senator’s name was cleared, but not before he lost his seat in the 2008 election.

Menendez, on the other hand, faces accusations of quid pro quo between him and Dr. Salomon Melgen, his buddy and campaign donor — far worse than what Stevens was accused of. And unlike Stevens, the evidence against Menendez is a lot more compelling.

Basic journalistic integrity would indicate that a truly objective news network would at least have given close to equal time to each trial or even highlight the seriousness of the case against Menendez. But not CNN.

A Media Research Center (MRC) analysis compared CNN’s coverage of the first three weeks of each trial. They concluded that CNN provided six times more coverage to Stevens’ trial than the Menendez trial.

Here’s an MRC graphic showing the number of stories for each day:

Basically, CNN provided wall-to-wall coverage of a Republican senator being railroaded with a political prosecution yet has provided scant coverage of a Democratic senator facing corruption charges backed by substantial evidence.

The hypocrisy of CNN is a microcosm of how the media as a whole treats political scandals: they pounce like salivating vultures at any allegation of wrongdoing toward a Republican but getting them to cover serious scandals involving a Democrat is like pulling teeth. This is yet another example as to why the media is losing credibility among Americans.
