<p>With members of his own party speaking out against his effort, the Democrat angling to compel the GOP-led House into taking action on seven articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump got cold feet.</p>
<p>Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI), who had been facing bipartisan opposition and likely would have seen his resolution tabled, announced on X that he would not be forcing a vote on Wednesday after speaking with his colleagues.</p>
<p>&#8220;Instead, I will add to my articles of impeachment and continue to rally the support of both Democrats and Republicans to defend the Constitution with me,&#8221; Thanedar said.</p>
<p>Thanedar asserted that Trump’s controversial plan to accept a roughly $400 million luxury aircraft known as the “Flying Palace” from Qatar was among the new impeachable offenses that Trump has committed.</p>

<p>He added: &#8220;This is not about any one person or party; it is about defending America, our Constitution, and Rule of Law. I will continue to pursue all avenues to put this President on notice and hold him accountable for his many impeachable crimes.&#8221;</p>
<p>The House had been expected to vote on his resolution within the hour.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrat-unveils-7-articles-of-impeachment-against-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Unveiled</a> last month, Thanedar&#8217;s impeachment resolution accused Trump of committing various &#8220;high crimes and misdemeanors&#8221; over alleged constitutional violations related to taxpayer funds, deportations, tariffs, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), retaliation against the press, and more.</p>
<p>Thanedar gave <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrat-pulls-trigger-on-trump-impeachment-forcing-house-to-act" target="_blank" rel="noopener">notice</a> on Tuesday that he would invoke privilege, a move that would push House GOP leadership to act on his impeachment resolution within two legislative days.</p>
<p>However, Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/05/13/donald-trump-impeachment-thanedar-democrats-react" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Democrats privately criticized Thanedar as being a &#8220;dumbs***&#8221; and &#8220;utterly selfish&#8221; for pressing ahead with impeachment. The outlet also <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/05/14/trump-impeachment-pelosi-thanedar-nadler" target="_blank" rel="noopener">disclosed</a> how Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) received applause from colleagues during a meeting after he cast the impeachment effort as &#8220;idiotic&#8221; and &#8220;horrible.&#8221;</p>
<p>Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA) even told fellow Democrats they would vote to table the resolution ahead of time, <a href="https://x.com/allymutnick/status/1922655316845425122" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Punchbowl News.</p>
<p>Thanedar, a 70-year-old Indian immigrant serving his second term in the House, is facing primary challenges. The incumbent moved to force the House to act on impeachment following Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), a member of the leftist &#8220;Squad,&#8221; <a href="https://x.com/RashidaTlaib/status/1922006536223588774" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declaring</a> that she backed one of his rivals.</p>
<p>When he introduced his impeachment articles in April, Thanedar insisted that his effort was &#8220;not about partisanship,&#8221; but rather &#8220;protecting our democracy and ensuring that no one, not even a President, is above the law.&#8221;</p>
<p>In his first term, Trump was impeached twice while the Democrats commanded the House. One inquiry dealt with Ukraine, and the other with January 6. Both efforts ended in acquittal by a GOP-led Senate. Rep. Al Green (D-TX) announced in February that he would <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-democrat-moves-to-impeach-trump-over-dastardly-deeds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">seek</a> to impeach Trump for &#8220;dastardly deeds,&#8221; but he has not forced a vote. Trump <a href="https://x.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1919396921593958754" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fired</a> back at the Democrats after Thanedar revealed his impeachment articles.</p>
<p>“The Democrats are really out of control. They have lost everything, especially their minds! These Radical Left Lunatics are into the ‘Impeachment thing’ again,” Trump said on X. “They have already got two ‘No Name,’ little respected Congressmen, total Whackjobs both, throwing the ‘Impeachment’ of DONALD J. TRUMP around, for about the 20th time, even though they have no idea for what I would be Impeached.”</p>
<p>Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) released a <a href="https://mikejohnson.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=1594">statement</a> criticizing Democrats on the latest impeachment bid before Thanedar backed off.</p>
<p>“House Democrats have demonstrated once again they are willing to abuse the Constitution in their effort to impede the agenda of the American people. Their latest sham impeachment charade against President Trump is another embarrassing political stunt. Today, House Republicans will move promptly to discard it,&#8221; Johnson said.</p>
<p>&#8220;While Democrats are throwing fits, impeding law enforcement, playing political games, and demonstrating how far out of touch they are — Republicans are working to deliver lower taxes for families, restore American energy dominance, strengthen border security, restore peace through strength, and make government work more efficiently and effectively,&#8221; the speaker added. &#8220;The contrast has never been more clear.&#8221;</p>
