Reality TV star Todd Chrisley claimed he’s living in “filthy” conditions in his Florida prison and being forced to eat animal-infested food where inmates are “starving,” and the prison has hit back against the complaints.

In a statement to TMZ from the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP), the outlet said the FBOP was adamant it operates safe and humane facilities despite Chrisley’s claims about expired food and a rodent-infested food storage facility.

“There are nutritious foods” and they are “up to date and fine,” Entertainment Tonight noted of the prison’s response.

Chrisley is serving time behind bars after he and his wife Julie Chrisley were convicted for fraud and tax evasion in 2022.

Chrisley made the claims during an an interview — nthrough his lawyer Brian Entin — that was aired on NewsNation‘s “Cuomo” with Chris Cuomo.

“It is so disgustingly filthy. The food is literally, I’m not exaggerating — the food is dated — it’s out of date by, at minimum, a year,” Chrisley said of the prison food. “It’s a year past expiration. And they are literally starving these men to death here. These men are getting — I don’t know that they are getting a thousand calories a day.”

“You’ve got rats, you’ve got squirrels in the storage facility where the food is,” he added. “They just covered it up with plastic and then tore the ceiling out because of all the black mold and found a dead cat in the ceiling. And it dropped down on the top of the food.”

The Chrisleys reported on January 17, 2023, to begin their individual sentences after being convicted in June last year of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, tax fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. In addition, Julie was also convicted on a charge of wire fraud and obstruction of justice.

The couple was sentenced in November 2022 to a total of 19 years behind bars after they were convicted for their multimillion-dollar bank fraud and tax evasion scheme, People noted. Both were also ordered to serve an additional 16 months of probation following their releases.

Earlier this year, a judge reduced Todd’s 12-year sentence by two years and reduced Julie’s 7-year sentence by 14 months, as previously reported.
