PragerU’s latest video features Wilfred Reilly, an Associate Professor of Political Science at Kentucky State University, who discusses some of what he describes as the fundamental flaws of the Pulitzer Prize-winning The 1619 Project, published by The New York Times in 2019. Despite sharp criticism among some prominent historians, the project has been heavily promoted by the Times and has even begun to make its way into some school curricula.
Reilly begins by countering The 1619 Project’s central thesis — that “The United States was founded in 1619, when the first slave was brought to North America” — with some glaring questions: “What happened to 1776? To July 4th? The Declaration of Independence? George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison?”
