A new poll indicates that the majority of registered American voters have doubts about President Joe Biden’s mental fitness and believe that he is showing he is too old to be president.

Harvard CAPS/Harris conducted a poll of nearly 2,000 registered voters from May 18-19, asking a series of questions relating to President Joe Biden and the nation.

When asked, “Is Joe Biden mentally fit to serve as President of the United States or do you have doubts about his fitness for office?” 53% of respondents answered, “I have doubts about his fitness.” Broken down along party lines, 19% of Democrats responded accordingly, as did 83% of Republicans, and a whopping 61% of Independents answered the same.

The poll also asked, “Do you think Joe Biden is showing he is too old to be President or do you think he is showing he is fit to be president?” Sixty-two percent responded that he is “showing he is too old.” Thirty-eight percent of respondents said that he is “showing he is fit to be president.”

The Daily Wire reported on Monday that a recent CBS poll also showed that 44% of Americans approve of the job Biden is doing as president. Furthermore, a look at the descriptions Americans provided for Biden may explain why the majority of people, or 56%, disapprove of Biden’s job performance.

The CBS poll was conducted May 18-20 and featured a nationally representative sample of 2,041 Americans.

CBS asked respondents to state whether or not certain words would “describe” or “not describe” Biden’s “actions as President so far.” While 53% of Americans said that the term “divisive” does not describe the president’s actions, 62% of Americans also said that the word “unifying” would not be an accurate description either.

Likewise, 62% of Americans said the word “effective” does not apply, while 57% of Americans said the word “distracted” describes Biden’s actions.

According to the poll, most respondents don’t believe that the president is all that interested in the problems facing them, either. When asked, “How much do you think Joe Biden cares about the needs and problems of people like you,” 56% of respondents said “not much” or “not at all.”

On Sunday, The Daily Wire reported that the same CBS poll found that 65% of Americans believe Biden has been “slow to react” to multiple crises that have characterized his administration, such as inflation, illegal immigration, soaring gas prices, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Harvard CAPS/Harris poll was conducted by Mark Penn, chairman of The Harris Poll; Dritan Nesho, CEO of HarrisX; and Stephen Ansolabehere, a professor and CAPS Director Emeritus at Harvard University.
