A new poll released from YouGov should send chills down the spine of freedom-loving Americans everywhere: millennials – or the rising generation, as radio host and constitutional scholar Mark Levin calls them – prefer socialism over capitalism.
Breitbart reports that according to the survey, 43 percent of those under 30 years of age held a positive view of socialism, while less than a third of the same demographic viewed capitalism favorably. While 49 percent of the rising generation don’t identify themselves as either capitalists or socialists, the fact that they are hostile to capitalism and warming to socialism is quite disturbing.
The rising generation has surpassed the Baby Boomers as the largest generation, at 95 million strong, meaning that they’re going to be a crucial voting bloc for years to come. The reason for the rising generation’s embrace of socialism is actually quite simple, as radio giant Rush Limbaugh pointed out in a dire warning in 2014. Limbaugh started by reading this pull quote:
“As noted in a recent report from the Pew Research Center, millennials are ‘the first in the modern era to have higher levels of student loan debt, poverty and unemployment, and lower levels of wealth and personal income than their two immediate predecessor generations (Gen Xers and Boomers) had at the same stage of their life cycles.’ Young people are not expected to turn out in big numbers for Democrats this fall. The Beltway spin is that apathetic youngsters don’t care enough to show up for midterm elections. But the kids also appear increasingly dissatisfied with the results of Democratic governance.”
Limbaugh continued, “Well, we hope they make that connection. What I have been worried about is that they won’t make that connection, that they will not blame a particular party and its policies, again, because of the media. Who’s gonna tell ’em that it’s Democrat Party policies doing this, if they don’t figure it out on their own? The media is not going to do so. Pop culture entertainment is not gonna do so. Late night comedians are not gonna do that. So it’s up to them finding conservative talk radio, Fox News, or figuring it out on their own that what is happening is due exclusively to Democrat Party policies.”
Unfortunately, the rising generation has succumbed to the allure of the false hope of socialism precisely because they don’t view the current economic malaise as a failure of the Democrat Party’s statist policies. Instead, they view the economic doldrums as a failure of the American Dream, which is the direct result of the left’s stranglehold over the media, academia and Hollywood. It certainly explains the appeal of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to the rising generation.
As Townhall’s Katie Pavlich writes, “Free-market conservatives have a lot of work to do, not just on the campaign trail, but in the education system to reverse this trend.”
Otherwise, the rising generation will be electing Sanders-esque candidates in the future.
