A new poll shows that the vast majority of likely American voters want companies to stay out of pushing politics onto the consumer and would even go so far as to not purchase from companies that do advocate politics with which they disagree.

The survey, conducted by Trafalgar Group and sponsored by the Convention of States, found that 87.1% of respondents said they were somewhat likely or very likely “to stop using a product or service of a company that openly advocates for a political agenda” that they disagreed with. The poll was conducted between April 24 and April 27 and featured 1,080 respondents.

The progressive left’s insistence that everybody and everything adhere to their agenda and politics is now coming home to roost,” Mark Meckler, President of Convention of States Action, said in a press release.

“When an overwhelming majority of Americans, from all political backgrounds, say they are now likely to boycott companies they disagree with, it’s an indicator that regardless of what side they choose to take, this is a losing battle for the companies,” he said.

Broken down by political parties, the poll also found that 84.5% of Democrats affirmed they would stop using a company’s product or service if the business advocated politics they disagreed with. Similarly, 93.4% of Republicans responded in the same manner as did 82.6% of Independents.

“Unless they want to be continuously in the middle of a culture war, it’s time for companies to leave politics and activism behind, and return to simply providing products and services to their customers,” Meckler added.

The poll comes as various companies have recently been pressured to push certain ideologies, while others have resorted to drawing lines to prevent some people from trying to force them to take public political or cultural stances.

On Thursday, The Daily Wire reported that Netflix issued a new corporate culture memo that effectively told employees that the company would not censor content while adding that if they have a problem with something that the company is producing, then they are free to go work somewhere else.

“If you’d find it hard to support our content breadth, Netflix may not be the best place for you,” the memo stated. It also told employees that may be required to work on projects that they “perceive to be harmful,” The Daily Wire added.

The Trafalgar poll also found that just 12.8 percent of American voters say they are not likely to “stop using a product or service of a company that openly advocates for a political agenda [they] disagree with.”
