Penn State Honors Joe Paterno, People Go Nuts

   DailyWire.com

On Thursday, Pen State’s athletic department announced that on September 17, when the Nittany Lions football team hosts Temple, the university will honor the 50th anniversary of the first game Joe Paterno coached for the school.

Paterno went on to become college football’s winningest coach during his 46-season career that was cut short due to his connection to Jerry Sandusky. Sandusky was his defensive coordinator, convicted on 45 of 48 charges of child molestation during his time working at Penn State and now in prison for the rest of his life.

After Sandusky’s arrest the school’s board of trustees fired Paterno though he was never charged with any crime and accusations that he knew what was happening were never substantiated in court. Paterno died of lung of cancer the next year.

The school quickly removed most of the items with Paterno’s name on them including a statue in his likeness outside of Beaver Stadium, although the campus library still bears his name because it was built in part by his donations.

Athletic Director Sandy Barbour told AP in August, “Depending on their position people may look at him differently, but it doesn’t change that he created that here. Or helped to create that here.”

Despite those removal efforts, Thursday’s announcement of an unspecified honor to be paid to the coach during a football game was enough to rile up social media outrage from many in the Twittersphere:

Leftist radio-host and former VH1 presenter John Fugelsang, whose Twitter handle reads: “Jesus never called the poor ‘lazy,’ fought for tax cuts for the wealthiest Nazarenes or asked a leper for a copay,” added his two cents:

Exit thought from our very own Andrew Klavan who coined a new term:
