House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s “sins of the father” have come back with a vengeance.
After calling the Confederate statues in the halls of Congress “reprehensible,” and demanding House Speaker Paul Ryan order their removal, revelations that her father once actually dedicated a statue to former Confederate general Robert E. Lee have come to light.
According to Red Alert, Pelosi’s family history shows that her father, Thomas D’Alesandro, Jr., publicly endorsed bigotry — by her own definition — when he dedicated a statue to Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee while mayor of Baltimore.
In a speech dedicating the statue, Pelosi’s father hailed Lee and Confederate general Stonewall Jackson as a symbol of unity and a source of our “inspiration.”
“Today, with our nation beset by subversive groups and propaganda which seeks to destroy our national unity, we can look for inspiration to the lives of Lee and Jackson to remind us to be resolute and determined in preserving our sacred institutions,” D’Alesandro, Jr. said.
The very same statues were removed last week by mayor Catherine Pugh.
The mockery against Pelosi came swift, with White House Senior Counsel Kellyanne Conway joining in on the fun.
Now, Pelosi is demanding the statues in Congress have the same fate. She is also leading the charge to have President Trump censured his response to the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville.
Katie Pavlich of Townhall recently noted the hypocrisy present in much of Pelosi’s sudden desire to extirpate the Confederate statues from Congress, since she has gone 30 years without ever a mention of them. Could she not have wanted the uncomfortable truth to come to light?
The very standards imposed by the left regarding these statues dictates that anyone supporting their continued presence on public property supports racism. By that token, Baltimore should remove Pelosi’s father from the record of having ever governed there, given that he brought such a shame upon the city by dedicating those racist statues in the first place.
Then they can demand all his descendants never hold a governmental position for a moritorium of 150 years. Both Democrats and Republcians would support that one.
