Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi mocked President Donald Trump’s weight during an interview on Monday night, saying that Trump should not take hydroxychloroquine prescribed by his doctor because he is “morbidly obese.”
“As far as the president is concerned, he’s our president and I would rather he not be taking something that has not been approved by the scientists, especially in his age group and in his, shall we say, weight group, morbidly obese, they say,” Pelosi said. “So I think it’s not a good idea.”
Pelosi’s comment did not make sense as Trump talked to his doctor and his doctor said the “potential benefit from treatment outweighed the relative risks.”
Pelosi’s assertion that Trump should not take hydroxychloroquine due to him being overweight and due to his age also does not make sense because she confused those risk factors with the factors that put people at the greatest of serious illness or death if they become infected with the coronavirus, not if they take the medication.
CNN’s Anderson Cooper did not push back on Pelosi’s remarks.

White House doctor Sean P. Conley wrote a letter on Monday on the regimen that he has Trump on: “After numerous discussions he and I had regarding the evidence for and against the use of hydroxychloroquine, we concluded the potential benefit from treatment outweighed the relative risks. In conclusion with our inter-agency partners and subject matter experts around the country, I continue to monitor the myriad studies investigating potential COVID-19 therapies, and I anticipate employing the same shared medical decision making based on the evidence at hand in the future.”
Online, other CNN employees and mainstream reporters appeared to joyously join in on the mocking.
CNN’s S.E. Cupp tweeted Pelosi’s remarks along with a laughing GIF.

Others called out CNN employees for their hypocrisy over the matter.
Republican strategist Chris Barron called out host Jake Tapper–who had recently said that there was “no bottom” to the attacks that Trump allies made against Trump’s enemies–writing: “A few days ago, @jaketapper had to pull out the fainting couch and ask “is there no bottom” to Trump attacks on Biden. Anything to say about this Jake?”
