Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) added to the already deep divide in our nation during an online meeting with constituents in San Francisco on Saturday, claiming the Trump supporters who breached the Capitol on Wednesday chose their “whiteness over democracy.”
According to the comments obtained by The Hill, Pelosi’s racial comments tied the coronavirus-related deaths among black people to the Capitol breach.
“When that assault was taking place on the Capitol, 3,865 people in our country died of the coronavirus, many of them people of color because of the injustice of it all,” the California Democrat said, adding, “The next day, on Thursday, 4,000 people died of the coronavirus. Why? Because decisions were made at the highest level, months before in the Oval Office, of denial, distortion, delay, calling it a ‘hoax.’”
“I thought it was going to be an epiphany for those who were in opposition of our democracy to see the light,” Pelosi continued Saturday, referencing the Feast of the Epiphany. “Instead, it was an epiphany for the world to see that there are people in our country, led by this President, for the moment, who have chosen their whiteness over democracy. That’s what this is about.”
“Not only the complicity, the instigation of the President of the United States, must and will be addressed,” the House Speaker added. “It’s only a number of days now before we inaugurate a new President.”
Following the breach on the Capitol by supporters of President Trump, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris similarly rejected a call for unity, instead opting for racially-charged language.
“You can’t tell me that if it had been a group of Black Lives Matter protesters yesterday they wouldn’t have been treated very differently than the mob of thugs that stormed the Capitol,” Mr. Biden said, according to The Washington Post. “We all know that is true. And it is totally unacceptable. Totally unacceptable. The American people saw it in plain view.
Harris, in a video posted to Twitter, talked of a “justice system that is experienced differently whether you’re white or black,” in relation to the Capitol breach.
Of course, Harris promoted a link to a bailout fund for left-wing rioters in Minnesota, this summer.
Conservative podcast host and New York Times bestselling author Ben Shapiro blasted Biden and Harris over their divisive remarks.
“Biden and Harris could have provided a moment of unity: everyone of good conscience deplores the riot in the Capitol. Instead, both decided to parrot the woke bulls*** that the police treated the rioters with kid gloves, and would have murdered them en masse were they BLM (Black Lives Matter),” he wrote.
“That’s categorical nonsense,” Shapiro continued. “Over the summer, BLM rioters ran roughshod through NYC, DC, LA, Chicago, and other major cities — and streets were renamed after BLM, police departments defunded, corporate brands cheered them, and politicians marched in solidarity.”
