The president of the Flint Community School Board in Michigan was voted out of her position on Wednesday — but will stay on the board — after she allegedly assaulted one of her colleagues during a meeting earlier that day.
Each of Danielle Green’s fellow board members voted to remove her as president, but they don’t have the authority take her off the board as a member, so she will remain for now, ABC 12 News reported.
The vote to remove her as president was sparked by a heated exchange between Green and Treasurer Laura McIntyre in a meeting on Wednesday over discussion on constructing new schools. McIntyre has accused Green of grabbing her throat, slamming her head on a table, and repeatedly punching her. She also claims the attack was “unprovoked.”
“There was no fight. There was no argument. This escalated out of nothing and very quickly it was [an] attack. It was an assault,” McIntyre said according to ABC 12. After the incident, McIntyre received medical attention for a concussion.
Green claims McIntyre “stuck her finger in her face” before Green allegedly attacked her, which “pushed her to her limit after previous run ins with McIntyre.” Green expressed regret for the incident, stating, “This is not one of my highlights of my [sic] anything — my life, my career, my position in the community. None of this am I proud of. Absolutely not. And this is one incident,” she said. “Never in my life would I have thought something like this I will be involved in ever, ever. And I can say this, my record speaks for itself.”
Flint Community Schools Superintendent Kevelin Jones released a statement following the incident, saying, “I cannot get into the specifics of what happened,” but promising to “remain committed to the safety of all members of our school community.”
Green will remain on the board for now, but that could pose challenges moving forward, as McIntyre said she plans to pursue charges “to the full extent of the law.” The Flint Police Department has launched an investigation into the altercation, but no charges have been filed yet.
The incident comes as school districts across the nation face intense debate and protest over controversial subjects like Critical Race Theory and gender identity. Last month, The Daily Wire reported on another Michigan school district that is facing a lawsuit for spying on parents’ Facebook groups.
According to the report, Rochester Community Schools Superintendent Robert Shaner called police out of fear for parents’ “aggressive” social media behavior. He claimed he received an email from a parent who threatened to “wreak havoc.”
Last week, The Daily Wire uncovered that a Wisconsin school district was telling teachers to “hide their students’ gender identity transitions from their parents.” The Eau Claire School District in western Wisconsin presented a slide presentation during a staff meeting on February 25 that read, “Parents are not entitled to know their kids’ identities. That knowledge must be earned.”
The slides, which were first obtained by conservative watchdog group Empower Wisconsin, outraged parents and school board candidates in the district.
