Several Oklahoma State senators have introduced a bill that would ban Critical Race Theory and similar beliefs from being required teaching and training in public schools and universities.

State Sens. David Bullard, Nathan Dahm, Shane Jett, and Warren Hamilton introduced a bill that would prohibit schools to require teachers, faculty, staff, or enrolled students to “engage in any form of mandatory gender or sexual diversity training or counseling” or any “orientation or requirement that presents any form of race or sex stereotyping or a bias on the basis of race or sex.”

Teachers, administrators, and other staff would also be prohibited from teaching the following concepts:

  1. one race or sex is inherently superior to another race or sex,
  2. an individual, by virtue of his or her race or sex, is inherently racist, sexist or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously,
  3. an individual should be discriminated against or receive adverse treatment solely or partly because of his or her race or sex,
  4. members of one race or sex cannot and should not attempt to treat others without respect to race or sex,
  5. an individual’s moral character is necessarily determined by his or her race or sex,
  6. an individual, by virtue of his or her race or sex, bears responsibility for actions committed in the past by other members of the same race or sex,
  7. any individual should feel discomfort, guilt, anguish or any other form of psychological distress on account of his or her race or sex, or
  8. meritocracy or traits such as a hard work ethic are racist or sexist or were created by members of a particular race to oppress members of another race.

The bill would require the State Board of Education to incorporate these rules and get legislative approval before adopting them.

In an interview with The Daily Wire, State Sen. Shane Jett said he and his fellow senators didn’t specifically say they were prohibiting “Critical Race Theory” because those who promote the concepts would “just change the title and still try to teach those principles that are embedded in critical race theory.”

“What we did instead is identify line by line the types of things being taught to our children in public schools and in the university and prohibited it expressly,” Jett said.

He added that, because of the way the bill is written, “the only people that would hate this prohibition of teaching our children this are either Critical Race Theory Marxists or white supremacists because we’re basically saying you can’t teach our children to hate one another based on race.”

Jett went on to explain how those behind Critical Race Theory, like Kimberlé Crenshaw, have admitted to being devout Marxists, who simply replace socioeconomics for race when discussing the oppressed versus oppressors.

“Using race instead of the traditional Marxist strategy of trying to pit classes against one another based on socioeconomic issues, they’ve chosen race which is immutable. You can’t change the color of your skin,” Jett said. “You can, in a meritorious system where we reward those who work hard and innovate, you can change your socioeconomic status by creating wealth by innovation, but you can’t change the color of your skin. So, they’ve chosen something that they’re using to create chaos to create a narrative that says your form of government doesn’t work.”

Critical Race Theory and its principles are so dangerous, Jett said, because it not only teaches that “the United States form of government is fundamentally flawed, designed by white supremacists to further the interests of white supremacists and must be removed and replaced with Marxism,” but also that “if you’re white, regardless of what your history is, you are a beneficiary of a system that is designed to promote white supremacy and therefore you are an oppressor by virtue of the color of your skin.” People of color are then taught that “you are a victim and have been victimized by this white supremacist form of government and you should be angry, frustrated, and should also agree that the form of government of the United States must be replaced.”

“The entire premise of Critical Race Theory is the Marxist effort to pit Americans against Americans and to disenchant them with their government so that they can replace it with a communist form of government,” Jett added.

The senator told The Daily Wire that his research in Oklahoma found that those who believe in Critical Race Theory “bypassed” the generations who grew up during the Cold War and saw what a communist form of government does to a nation, instead going into the schools and teaching the concept “directly to our children and grandchildren.” It’s why polls have found that a majority of millennials now reject capitalism and Gen Z has a more positive view of “socialism.”

These teachers and administrators “brainwash our children to make them hate each other and hate their form of government,” Jett said. The bill was introduced following a report that the University of Oklahoma not only pushed these concepts during mandatory diversity training, but required teachers and staff to actively agree with the university’s views, which may not align with the personal beliefs of those taking the training.

Further, the senator added that public schools and universities who repeatedly try to force students and teachers to take training inspired by Critical Race Theory would be subject to prosecution by the Oklahoma Attorney General.
