World class narcissist and former President Barack Obama gave a speech on Friday at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he brazenly laid the current state of political division within the country at the feet of President Donald Trump and the GOP. Obama urged the American people to vote Republicans out of office this November to usher in “unity.”
Of course, anyone paying attention at all during Obama’s tenure in the White House knows this is peak absurdity; Obama himself frequently fomented hatred and division based on race, gender, economic status, and political ideology.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) took notice of Obama’s pot-calling-the-kettle-black speech and blasted the former president in a Twitter thread for his blatant contribution to the brokenness of American politics and our current state of discord.
“It is wrong for a President to use divisive language,” Rubio factitiously agreed with former President Obama, before listing examples of Obama’s divisive tactics, such as labeling opponents of same-same marriage “bigots,” calling the pro-life movement a “war on women,” categorizing those who want immigration laws enforced as “racists,” and suggesting Republicans are the “enemy of Hispanics.”
Rubio went on to smack Obama for infamously mocking Middle Americans as “bitter clingers” for their apparently bigoted religious views and support of the Constitution.
“You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations,” Obama said in April of 2008.
The Florida senator ripped into Obama for unabashedly ignoring Constitutional limitations of the executive, as Obama ironically accused Trump of doing in his faux-righteous speech:
And Rubio highlighted the former president’s penchant for taking the low road:
This is all accurate, of course. As diagnosed by Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro on Friday, Trump is largely a symptom of the man preceding Trump the White House.
“The reality of the situation, of course, is that Trump is a symptom of the slow-rolling collapse of those institutions, brought about in large part by the disingenuous gaslighting in which Obama engaged for a decade: promoting a better discourse while engaging identity politics, championing supposed honesty in politics while simultaneously presiding over an administration rife with malfeasance, and demonizing opponents while claiming to fly above the fray,” explained Shapiro.
