CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings panned the third night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), saying during a panel discussion that over the course of five hours, none of the speakers had actually said anything of substance.
Jennings delivered his assessment of the evening during a roundtable discussion hosted by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, and he argued that despite a slate of speakers including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Oprah Winfrey — and the evening ending with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz accepting the Democratic Party’s vice presidential nomination — nothing of any real value was said.

“Nobody tonight said anything. Nobody tonight said a damn thing,” Jennings began, prompting a laugh from fellow panelist Van Jones. “They want you to vote for a ticket based on absolutely no concrete idea about what they would do once they get in office.”
“You said [Walz] got more progressive when he got elected governor,” Jennings continued. “So you’re saying every time he gets another office he gets more and more progressive. I think that’s exactly what would happen.”
Jennings went on to mock the Democratic Party’s focus on “joy” with very little underlying substance, saying, “Tonight you did hear people say, ‘Well, we may not agree with him on everything, but at least it will be joyful’ … as they tax us into oblivion.”

The Republican commentator ended with a jab at former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s awkward push for the passage of the Affordable Care Act, when she claimed that Congress first had to pass the bill before the American people could see what was in it.
“I think the idea that you could run an entire presidential campaign based on the idea of ‘vote for me to find out what’s in it’ ought to terrify every American,” Jennings said.
