NewsNation host and Mediaite founder Dan Abrams warned that the media’s “breathless” coverage of Donald Trump — particularly his recent comments predicting a “bloodbath” if he loses his 2024 re-election bid — was more likely to help the former president than to hurt him.
Abrams reacted to the multiple media outlets and leftists that had seized upon Trump’s words and suggested or outright claimed that he was inviting a literal bloodbath in the form of politically motivated violence. President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign was among them, arguing that Trump’s prediction was proof that he “wants another January 6.”
But as Abrams was quick to note, as tone deaf as the phrasing may have been, the context made Trump’s meaning pretty clear.

“He’s talking about it in the context of cars, right? Is it a great idea to be using phrases like ‘bloodbath’ considering what happened on January 6th? No. But do I think he’s calling for another January 6th-type event there, as many in the media have been claiming? No. The context matters,” Abrams explained. “Right out of the gate, the word ‘bloodbath’ blew up in the media. The Trump campaign put out a statement repeating it was talking about the automobile industry in China, but the left-leaning media dug in.”

Abrams then went on to say that the media’s dishonest wall-to-wall coverage of that one remark ultimately gave Trump protection on two fronts: first, it guaranteed that he would be correct when he complained about being taken “out of context,” and second, it kept everyone occupied while other things he had said during the same speech — such as referring to January 6th defendants as “hostages” went largely unnoticed.
“This plays out perfectly for Donald Trump. He gets to say, rightly, the media took his comments out of context and the rest of his speech gets largely forgotten,” Abrams said.
