Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, is ranked as America’s most popular senator, according to newly released polling.

The Morning Consult survey found Barrasso had a 70% approval rating in Wyoming while only 18% disapproved.

The most popular senators after Barrasso were Sens. Brian Schatz (D-HI) at 65%, Mazie Hirono (D-HI) at 63%, John Thune (R-SD) at 63%, Bernie Sanders (I-VT) at 63%, Mike Rounds (R-SD) at 62%, Angus King (I-ME) at 62%, Dan Sullivan (R-AK) at 61%, Peter Welch (D-VT) at 61%, and Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) at 60%.

Nearly all the senators, whether listed among the most popular or least popular, had somewhere between 7-14% of their constituents that didn’t know or had no opinion of their job performance. The exception was Sanders, who had ≤1% that had not made up their minds.

The least favorite included Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), with 61% disapproving, Joe Manchin (D-WV) at 55%, Susan Collins at 50%, Ron Johnson (R-WI) at 48%, Lindsey Graham (R-SC) at 44%, Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) at 43%, John Fetterman (D-PA) at 43%, Ted Cruz (R-TX) at 43%, Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) at 41%, Joni Ernst (R-IA) at 41%, and Raphael Warnock (D-GA) at 41%.

Other key takeaways from Morning Consults’ analysis of their survey:

  • “As Sen. Joe Manchin mulls a re-election bid, the latest surveys show that 55% of West Virginia voters disapprove of his job performance, while 39% approve. Manchin is far less popular than Gov. Jim Justice (R-W.Va.), who is running for his seat.”
  • “Sen. Jon Tester’s net approval in Montana is 51 percentage points higher than Joe Biden’s in his state, marking the widest popularity advantage between a Democratic senator and the president in states with competitive Senate elections next year.”
  • Sinema’s approval among Democrats improved after she left the party in December.
  • “Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, a populist progressive who’s running for re-election next year in a state that Biden lost by 8 points in 2020, has a 39-percentage point net approval advantage over the White House incumbent.”
  • “Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey, whose state narrowly flipped for Biden in the last presidential election, bests the president’s net approval rating by 31 points.”
