A petition calling for the release of baby Alfie Evans to his parents has racked up nearly half a million signatures.
The Change.org petition created by Kayleigh Price asks the U.K. Parliament to demand Alder Hey Hospital, where the sick boy is being “treated,” to release baby Alfie “to a hospital of his parents’ choice.”
Th petition currently has over 426,000 signatures (see below). It was created months ago, but over 400,000 people signed it in just the last eight hours, according to available updates.
“Doctors can’t explain away the signs Alfie gives of fighting on. Disabled and sick children deserve care, not a hastened death,” reads the petition. “Give Alfie his rightful chance at life!”
Price created another petition asking for the Queen of England to intervene and allow Alfie to be under the care of his parents. That petition now boasts over 185,000 signatures.
“As your people, we implore you to urgently intervene. If her Majesty the Queen does not intervene in some way, we will take this as though she accepts that what is happening to her people in this country is OK,” it reads.
The sick 23-month-old was removed from his life-support on Monday evening by orders from the hospital that were enforced by the British court system. Tom Evans, Alfie’s father, told reporters Tuesday that he and his wife had resorted to giving their child mouth-to-mouth to keep him alive as medical staff refused to help.
“We were doing what a nurse should have been doing to sustain his life,” Mr. Evans said outside the hospital.
“Now they are saying that he looks really good but we all know he should be in Italy right now,” he added.
As previously reported by The Daily Wire, “Baby Alfie is believed to be suffering from encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome. The medical staff at Alder Hey Hospital claim life-support or further treatment is not in the child’s ‘best interest.’ Alfie’s brave parents, however, have been fighting to get their son treatment. In a last-ditch legal effort to take Alfie to Italy for treatment, where he was granted citizenship and an offer for assistance, the parents were met with rejection.”
The Daily Wire reached out to Ms. Price but did not hear back in time for publication.
