<p>NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called President Donald Trump &#8220;daddy&#8221; on Wednesday as the pair discussed efforts by the U.S. commander in chief to broker peace between Israel and Iran.</p>
<p>The light-hearted moment happened while Rutte and Trump spoke with reporters during a <a href="https://x.com/CollinRugg/status/1937864879257669826" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press conference</a> at The Hague in the Netherlands, where NATO convened for a summit.</p>

<p>Rutte, a Dutch politician, then referred to Trump dropping an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-holds-ceasefire-after-israel-refrains-from-major-retaliation-for-irans-strike-on-civilians" target="_blank" rel="noopener">f-bomb</a> on Tuesday as he accused both Israel and Iran of violating a ceasefire between the two countries that he had announced the night before.</p>
<p>&#8220;And then daddy has to sometimes use strong language,&#8221; the NATO leader said with a laugh. Trump riffed off the comment, replying, &#8220;Every once in a while you have to use a certain word.&#8221;</p>
<p>Trump later got Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to crack up as he responded to a reporter who had mentioned the &#8220;daddy&#8221; moment.</p>

<p>&#8220;You are a man of strength, but you are also a man of peace. And the fact that you are now also successful in getting this ceasefire done &#8230; I really want to commend you for it,&#8221; Rutte <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1937796269470097652" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.</p>
<p>Under pressure from Trump, NATO allies — except for Spain — have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-triumphs-nato-bows-to-u-s-pressure-with-5-defense-pledge" target="_blank" rel="noopener">agreed</a> to increase defense spending to 5% of their gross domestic product by 2035, a bump from the previous 2% target.</p>
<p>&#8220;A lot of people didn&#8217;t even pay the 2%. So I think it&#8217;s going to be very big news. NATO is going to become very strong with us,&#8221; Trump noted in his appearance with Rutte.</p>

<p>Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) went to the hospital and was treated for dehydration, his office said on Wednesday.</p>
<p>The announcement, which noted that Schumer had since returned to work on Capitol Hill, came as the greater Washington, D.C., area was in the midst of a heat wave, with temperatures reaching the mid-90s.</p>
<p>&#8220;Leader Schumer was at the Senate gym this morning and got lightheaded. Out of an abundance of caution, he went to the hospital to be treated for dehydration and is now back at work in the Capitol,&#8221; a spokesperson for the New York Democrat <a href="https://x.com/AndrewDesiderio/status/1937947659471622166" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement. &#8220;He wants to remind everyone to drink some water and stay out of the heat.&#8221;</p>
<p>NBC News reporter Frank Thorp V <a href="https://x.com/frankthorp/status/1937949234180812836" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> that Schumer, who is 74, had just attended a press conference in the U.S. Capitol but did not take any questions. Schumer delivered some remarks at the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdhsVtS0Qws" target="_blank" rel="noopener">event</a> with the families of victims from Continental Flight 3407 and left the room right afterwards.</p>
<p>The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a <a href="https://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=VAZ054&amp;warncounty=VAC013&amp;firewxzone=VAZ054&amp;local_place1=2%20Miles%20N%20Fort%20Myer%20VA&amp;product1=Heat+Advisory&amp;lat=38.8774&amp;lon=-77.072" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bulletin</a> warning that a heat advisory was in effect for Wednesday until 9 p.m. for portions of D.C. and the surrounding region. Another heat advisory has been issued for Thursday from the late morning until the evening.</p>
<p>&#8220;Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,&#8221; NWS said. &#8220;Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.&#8221;</p>
<p>Earlier on Wednesday, Schumer issued a <a href="https://x.com/chuckschumer/status/1937890929689420209" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> on X regarding Zohran Mamdani, a socialist who emerged victorious late on Tuesday in the Democratic Party&#8217;s New York City mayoral primary.</p>
<p>&#8220;I have known [Mamdani] since we worked together to provide debt relief for thousands of beleaguered taxi drivers &amp; fought to stop a fracked gas plant in Astoria. He ran an impressive campaign that connected with New Yorkers about affordability, fairness, &amp; opportunity,&#8221; Schumer said. &#8220;I spoke with [Mamdani] this morning and am looking forward to getting together soon.&#8221;</p>

Schumer Hospitalized For Dehydration As D.C. Nears 100 Degrees

<p>A House Democrat from Long Island who is seen as vulnerable in next year&#8217;s midterm elections warned on Wednesday that socialist Zohran Mamdani is &#8220;too extreme&#8221; to lead New York City.</p>
<p>The <a href="https://x.com/LauraAGillen/status/1937900429263982742" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> from Rep. Laura Gillen (D-NY) came after former Governor Andrew Cuomo <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/andrew-cuomo-falls-to-radical-socialist-zohran-mamdani-in-nyc-mayoral-primary" target="_blank" rel="noopener">conceded</a> the Democratic Party&#8217;s mayoral primary to Mamdani late on Tuesday.</p>
<p>&#8220;Socialist Zohran Mamdani is too extreme to lead New York City. His entire campaign has been built on unachievable promises and higher taxes, which is the last thing New York needs,&#8221; Gillen said. &#8220;Beyond that, Mr. Mamdani has called to defund the police and has demonstrated a deeply disturbing pattern of unacceptable antisemitic comments which stoke hate at a time when antisemitism is skyrocketing. He is the absolute wrong choice for New York.&#8221;</p>
<p>Gillen, who is serving her first term after defeating Republican Anthony D&#8217;Esposito last November, is one of 26 Democrats that the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has on its <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/26-house-districts-republicans-flip-2026-midterms" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;target list&#8221;</a> for the 2026 midterms.</p>
<p>Another New York Democrat whose district is also viewed as a “prime pick-up” opportunity for Republicans to grow their slim majority in the House, Rep. Tom Suozzi, released a skeptical statement regarding Mamdani.</p>
<p>&#8220;I had serious concerns about Assemblyman Mamdani before yesterday, and that is one of the reasons I endorsed his opponent,&#8221; Suozzi <a href="https://x.com/Tom_Suozzi/status/1937922834845585741" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post on X. &#8220;Those concerns remain.&#8221;</p>
<p>The leading Democrats in the House and Senate, who are both from New York, both complemented Mamdani&#8217;s campaign and said they aimed to meet with the candidate sometime in the future.</p>

Vulnerable Long Island Dem Warns Mamdani ‘Too Extreme’ For NYC After Primary Upset

<p>Ex-White House Staff Secretary and Director of the Domestic Policy Council Neera Tanden was told that executive privilege is &#8220;not justified&#8221; in her testimony on Tuesday for a congressional investigation into former President Joe Biden&#8217;s mental state and whether he authorized the use of autopen signatures for major executive actions.</p>
<p>Gary Lawkowski, the deputy counsel to President Donald Trump, wrote to Tanden on the same day she appeared before the GOP-led House Oversight Committee for a closed-door interview. The letter, <a href="https://x.com/ShelbyTalcott/status/1937543246827188731" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> by Semafor, said the &#8220;extraordinary nature&#8221; of the inquiry permitted an &#8220;accommodation&#8221; for Congress and noted that the White House counsel was not requesting that an agency counsel be permitted to attend.</p>
<p>&#8220;[T]he President authorizes you to provide unrestricted testimony to the House Oversight Committee, irrespective of potential privilege,&#8221; Lawkowski wrote.</p>
<p>Still, Tanden was advised that she was not given the go-ahead to disclose classified information or any other details that would violate the law or court orders, according to a footnote in the letter.</p>
<p>Tanden is one of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-officials-to-testify-about-former-presidents-mental-fitness" target="_blank" rel="noopener">several</a> top former staffers in Biden&#8217;s White House who are scheduled to speak with the House Oversight Committee over the next several weeks. The others include former Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor to the First Lady Anthony Bernal, Former Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Oval Office Operations Ashley Williams, and Former Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff Annie Tomasini.</p>
<p>Chairman James Comer (R-KY), who <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/release/chairman-comer-demands-testimony-from-bidens-doctor-former-white-house-aides-on-cover-up-of-mental-decline/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">demanded</a> their testimony, has also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/congress-hits-bidens-doc-with-subpoena-as-part-of-cover-up-probe" target="_blank" rel="noopener">subpoenaed</a> former White House physician Kevin O’Connor.</p>
<p>&#8220;I think there is a huge level of curiosity in the press corps with respect to who was calling the shots in the Biden administration,&#8221; Comer <a href="https://x.com/cspan/status/1937532798606229520" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> reporters before the interview with Tanden. &#8220;So this is the first of many people we&#8217;re going to bring in to try to get the answers for the American people.&#8221;</p>
<p>Lawkowski suggested that executive privilege would be waived for the other former Biden White House staffers and contended that Trump&#8217;s view on the matter is &#8220;consistent with the practice established under&#8221; the previous administration.</p>
<p>In her opening statement, <a href="https://x.com/AndrewSolender/status/1937557095605502278" target="_blank" rel="noopener">obtained</a> by Axios, Tanden noted that in her role as staff secretary from October 2021 to May 2023, she was authorized to direct autopen signatures for &#8220;certain categories&#8221; of documents — part of a system &#8220;inherited&#8221; from prior administrations. She denied having any further role in the use of the autopen while serving as head of the Domestic Policy Council from May 2023 until the end of Biden&#8217;s term.</p>
<p>Tanden also emphasized that her &#8220;cooperation should not be taken to mean that I think the Committee&#8217;s &#8216;investigation&#8217; is a worthy subject.&#8221; She added that Biden was &#8220;in command as President&#8221; and claimed not to have any &#8220;experience in the White House&#8221; that would raise doubts about his ability to lead.</p>
<p>Democrats have dismissed the House Oversight Committee&#8217;s probe as baseless.</p>
<p>&#8220;The only thing extraordinary that came out of that deposition was it was an extraordinary waste of time,&#8221; Rep. Wesley Bell (D-MO) <a href="https://x.com/cspan/status/1937542202906857853" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> reporters.</p>
<p>Biden, now 82, abandoned his 2024 re-election bid following a faltering debate against now-President Trump amid pressure from allies. A new <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jake-tapper-flails-when-confronted-with-his-role-in-biden-cover-up" target="_blank" rel="noopener">book</a> by journalists Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson on Biden’s &#8220;decline&#8221; and the &#8220;cover-up,&#8221; alongside the former president&#8217;s recent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joe-biden-diagnosed-with-aggressive-form-of-prostate-cancer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;aggressive&#8221;</a> prostate cancer diagnosis and the release of audio from special counsel Robert Hur’s interview with him, has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gop-proposal-panel-biden-health-cover-up" target="_blank" rel="noopener">intensified</a> scrutiny.</p>
<p>Senate Republicans are <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrats-duck-biden-mental-fitness-hearing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">looking into</a> Biden&#8217;s mental fitness as well. Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-orders-investigation-into-biden-autopen-scandal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ordered</a> a separate investigation into whether aides improperly used an autopen for executive actions in an effort to conceal Biden&#8217;s health issues, suggesting there could be &#8220;implications&#8221; for the legality and validity of the presidential acts in question.</p>
<p>Biden has pushed back on the notion that he did not dictate his executive actions.</p>
<p>&#8220;Let me be clear: I made the decisions during my presidency. I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations. Any suggestion that I didn’t is ridiculous and false,&#8221; Biden said in a <a href="https://x.com/brittanys/status/1930450375699583244" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>. &#8220;This is nothing more than a distraction by Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans.&#8221;</p>

Trump Waives Executive Privilege Protection For Biden Aide Ahead Of Cognitive Fitness Hearings

<p>House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said on Monday that he does not believe a war powers resolution is necessary for President Donald Trump to attack Iran, noting how recent Democrat occupants of the White House did not wait for Congress.</p>
<p>The top Republican made his stance clear when asked by a reporter on Capitol Hill whether he would allow such a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-squad-endorses-massies-resolution-on-u-s-involvement-in-israel-iran-conflict" target="_blank" rel="noopener">measure</a> from Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) to come to the floor after the U.S. launched strikes on three of Tehran&#8217;s nuclear facilities over the weekend.</p>
<p>“I don&#8217;t think this is an appropriate time for a war powers resolution, and I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s necessary. Listen, for 80 years, presidents of both parties have acted with the same commander in chief authority under Article 2&#8243; of the Constitution, Johnson <a href="https://constitutioncenter.org/blog/does-the-president-need-congress-to-approve-military-actions-in-iran" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.</p>

<p>Johnson went on to mention how Democrats who are complaining now did not seem to mind when former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama conducted military operations in the region without seeking <a href="https://constitutioncenter.org/blog/does-the-president-need-congress-to-approve-military-actions-in-iran" target="_blank" rel="noopener">explicit approval</a> from Congress for those campaigns.</p>
<p>&#8220;You had President Biden use it three times in Middle East operations. President Obama went on an eight-month campaign bombing Libya to take down the regime there. I never heard a Democrat balk about any of that,&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;And suddenly now they&#8217;re just up in arms. It&#8217;s all politics. This is not a time for politics.&#8221;</p>
<p>Trump&#8217;s administration contended the strikes over the weekend were necessary to prevent Tehran from achieving a nuclear weapon. Iran <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/iran-attacks-u-s-military-base" target="_blank" rel="noopener">retaliated</a> on Monday by attacking a United States military base in Qatar. The president <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114734424268466099" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> afterwards there were no American casualties and pushed for peace in the region.</p>
<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-CA) claimed on Monday that Trump&#8217;s actions &#8220;do not appear to be consistent&#8221; with the U.S. Constitution after taking &#8220;unilateral offensive military action&#8221; without seeking the go-ahead from Congress.</p>
<p>&#8220;The use of military force, which is offensive in nature, must be approved by the House and the Senate. That’s according to the Constitution. It’s not optional, Donald. It’s not,&#8221; Jeffries <a href="https://x.com/Breaking911/status/1937226965511032973" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.</p>
<p>However, when asked if he supports the war powers resolution from Massie and Khanna, Jeffries <a href="https://x.com/kenklippenstein/status/1937230550512595396" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a> that he had not even looked at it.</p>
<p>Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tim-kaine-claims-trump-acted-prematurely-in-striking-iran-presses-ahead-with-war-powers-vote" target="_blank" rel="noopener">unveiled</a> a similar war powers resolution for the upper chamber, which could get a vote in the coming days or weeks.</p>

Speaker Johnson Exposes Dem Hypocrisy On Iran Strikes

<p>White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt set the record straight after CNN reported over the weekend that the Trump administration did not provide advanced notice of the United States&#8217;s strike on three Iranian nuclear sites to Democrat leaders in Congress.</p>
<p>On Fox News, Leavitt said there was, in fact, outreach to both Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), and the White House had the receipts to prove it.</p>
<p>&#8220;The White House made calls to congressional leadership. They were bipartisan calls. In fact, Hakeem Jeffries couldn&#8217;t be reached. We tried him before the strike and he didn&#8217;t pick up the phone,&#8221; Leavitt said during a &#8220;Fox &amp; Friends&#8221; <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SidHwZUl8RY" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a>.</p>

<p>Leavitt added that Jeffries was ultimately briefed after the strike, while Schumer was advised beforehand.</p>
<p>&#8220;This notion that CNN ran with that the White House did not give a heads up to Democrats is just completely false,&#8221; Leavitt said. &#8220;In fact, both Sen. Schumer&#8217;s office and CNN had to retract that story last night because it was a blatant lie and we showed them the timestamps from those phone calls.&#8221;</p>
<p>CNN did initially <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20250622041816/https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/21/politics/republicans-democrats-iran-strikes-briefings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> that no top Democrats were told of Trump&#8217;s plans until after the attack, but later <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/21/politics/republicans-democrats-iran-strikes-briefings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">updated</a> its headline and issued a correction to note that Schumer did receive a call prior to the strike after Leavitt initially <a href="https://x.com/PressSec/status/1936900039752012235" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called out</a> the news outlet on X.</p>
<p>Its revised story said that a source &#8220;conceded&#8221; Schumer had been called a little less than an hour before the attack &#8220;with little detail&#8221; and no mention of which country in which the action was taking place. <p>House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) defended Trump’s strike on Iran&#8217;s nuclear infrastructure and contended that top members of the legislature were notified.</p>
<p>&#8220;The President made the right call, and did what he needed to do. Leaders in Congress were aware of the urgency of this situation and the Commander-in-Chief evaluated that the imminent danger outweighed the time it would take for Congress to act,&#8221; Johnson <a href="https://x.com/SpeakerJohnson/status/1936602051431063760" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on X.</p>
<p>He added: &#8220;The world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, which chants ‘Death to America,’ simply could not be allowed the opportunity to obtain and use nuclear weapons. The President fully respects the Article I power of Congress, and tonight’s necessary, limited, and targeted strike follows the history and tradition of similar military actions under presidents of both parties.&#8221;</p>
