<p>Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) admitted during a recent interview that she doesn&#8217;t believe her party should be chomping at the bit to impeach President Donald Trump in the next two years.</p>
<p>Pelosi, who presided over the House through two impeachments during Trump&#8217;s first term, argued that in 2019 and 2020, the Democrats had a solid reason for moving ahead with impeachment — and that there was no obvious reason to impeach him based on his actions in his second term.</p>
<p>Pelosi delivered her assessment during an appearance on the USA Today podcast &#8220;The Excerpt&#8221; with Washington Bureau Chief Susan Page, and Page asked whether she would be behind a third impeachment effort if Democrats were to regain control of the House after the 2026 midterm elections.</p>

<p>&#8220;Just to make sure I understand you, [impeachment] should not be the agenda of Democrats for this last two years,&#8221; Page prompted the California lawmaker.</p>
<p>Pelosi, who just recently announced that she will not seek reelection in 2026, confirmed Page&#8217;s suspicions.</p>

<p>&#8220;No, I mean unless he — if he crosses the border again. But that’s not an incidental thing you say — ‘We’re going to do that.’ No, there has to be cause,&#8221; Pelosi said. &#8220;There has to be reason.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;We had review. This was a very serious historic thing,&#8221; Pelosi continued. &#8220;And our founders knew that there could be a rogue president. And that’s why they put impeachment in the Constitution.&#8221;</p>
<p>Pelosi went on to take potshots at Senate Republicans, blaming them for the fact that neither of Trump&#8217;s impeachments had been able to get across the finish line to conviction in the Senate — or removal from office, which appeared to be the end goal.</p>
<p>&#8220;[The founders] didn’t know there’d be a rogue president at the same time a rogue Senate that didn’t have the courage to do the right thing. It was bipartisan in the Senate, but it wasn’t enough,&#8221; she complained.</p>
