Multiple Children Killed At Private Nashville Christian School

The person accused of shooting up a private Christian school in Nashville on Monday is dead after being engaged by local law enforcement officials.

“An active shooter event has taken place at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr.,” the Nashville Metro Police Department said in a tweet. “The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead.”

Vanderbilt University Medical Center spokesperson John Howser said that the three children who were shot were all “pronounced dead after arrival.”

The Nashville Fire Department said that there were “multiple patients” from the shooting.

“Parents coming to the school should go to 20 Burton Hills at this time,” the department said. “This is an active scene.”

The private pre-kindergarten through grade six school ran active shooter drills last year.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) announced on Twitter that it was sending agents to the scene.

“Special Agents from the Nashville Field Office are responding to assist the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department with an active shooter incident that has occurred at the Convenant School,” the ATF said.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation later confirmed that the crime scene was no longer active and that there was no threat to the surrounding community.

“At the request of District Attorney General Glenn Funk, TBI special agents and additional personnel are responding to the scene of this morning’s school shooting in Green Hills,” TBI said. “As indicated by @MNPDNashville , there is no current threat to public safety.”
