Because everything is stupid in 2017, MTV has renamed the iconic Video Music Award (VMA) “Moonman” to a “Moon Person” award.
Person? This seems rather discriminatory against those who identify as animals, but whatever.
“In keeping with some new changes at the network, MTV is doing away with the gendered VMA trophy, lovingly called the ‘Moonman,’ in favor of a gender-free space traveler, which will be henceforth known as the ‘Moon Person,'” reports E! News.
“Why should it be a man? It could be a man, it could be a woman, it could be transgender, it could be nonconformist,” MTV President Chris McCarthy told The New York Times.

The award show notably gave out the world’s first “genderless” award to feminist Emma Watson, last year. (This is stupid for a number of reasons I explain here.)
“This year has been full of firsts for me,” said Orange is the New Black actress Asia Kate Dillon at last year’s show. ” I am the first, openly, non-binary actor to play a non-binary character on a major, television show and now it’s so cool to be here presenting the first, acting award ever that celebrates performance, free of any gender distinctions. Tonight, we celebrate portrayals of the human experience because the only distinction we should be making when it comes to awards is between each outstanding performance.”
By the way, Dillion is a female. She has short hair, yes, but she is a female. So the whole “non-binary” thing escapes me, but I’m also not “woke.”

But you know who is woke? The people at MTV. Not only will this year’s award recipients be taking home a “genderless” “moon person,” gendered categories will be purged entirely from the show, according to McCarthy.
One last note: never has a female or “non-binary” person been to the moon, so not only is the new name moronic, it’s also false.
But, hey, ten points for virtue signaling, MTV!
