On-air personalities on MSNBC warned on Monday that Democrats need to quickly move away from the far-left-wing of the party they have embraced; otherwise, they will get blown off the map in 2024 if Donald Trump does not run again.
Frequent MSNBC guest Donny Deutsch made the comments while conversing with Joe Scarborough, who agreed with Deutsch, on the network’s “Morning Joe.”
“If the Republicans ran anybody but Donald Trump, they would win in a landslide,” Deutsch said. “Anybody just right of center, anybody.”
Deutsch said he wanted to see different polls of how potential 2024 candidates stack up against Biden, predicting that Trump would win in a rematch. Deutsch noted that a candidate like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) “would win by over double digits” in 2024.
Scarborough responded by saying that he has “never heard such unrest in all my life against any party, as I am against the Democratic Party because of their policies, and how wildly out of step they are [with] mainstream America.” Scarborough said that many of the complaints that he is hearing about how extreme Democrats have become are from “lifelong liberals” and “lifelong progressives.”
“I’m going to get killed on Twitter today,” he continued. “And guess what? Guess what? I don’t care. You know why? Because Twitter isn’t mainstream America. Donny I’m hearing this from lifelong liberals, lifelong progressives on a variety of issues.”
“Joe Biden does not have the hearts and minds of this country,” Deutsch said. “And the other Democrats that we see being paraded forward, the AOC’s of the world, the far-left, are suicide for the Democrats. So the Democrats better get some new faces and the Democrats better figure out that this world lives just right of center or on a good year, just left of center and it’s this socialist kind of pulling all the way to the left is a disaster.”

DONNY DEUTSCH, MSNBC GUEST: Here’s the fact, if the Republicans ran anybody but Donald Trump, they would win in a landslide. Anybody just right of center, anybody.
JOE SCARBOROUGH, MSNBC HOST: Anybody. Let us, Donny, Donny, Donny, nobody has said this enough. Nobody has said this enough. You go back and look at 2020, Democrats were shocked by how badly they underperformed in the House. Shocked by how badly they underperformed in the Senate. Donald Trump had to work overtime to make Mitch McConnell the minority leader in Georgia. They had to work overtime to lose that. You look at state legislatures across America, less connected to Trump, and they did very well. You look at governorships less connected to Trump, they did very well. Republicans had a pretty darn good election cycle in 2020, despite the fact they should have been wiped off the face of the political earth because of the insanity and the Neo-fascism that Donald Trump was pushing, trying to arrest his opponent and all the other crazy things. And yet Republicans still did very well except for Trump. And if anybody but Trump had run, they would have won by 20 points.
DEUTSCH: I would like to see some polls. First, a poll of Trump against Biden, which I think Trump would eke out a victory. But then I want to see polls with Nikki Haley, or Ron DeSantis or fill in the blank, and they would win by over double digits. It is, you know, I live in this bubble and this very kind of blue state, and I cannot tell you the, the unrest with the feeling of the Democrats in control the way they are running things, the way Biden not feeling his hands on the wheel and nobody on deck. That’s the concern that Democrats have. But if the Republicans were smart, they would move away from Trump. Can they? Will they? You and I don’t know that. But clearly, if they did, it would be a landslide.
SCARBOROUGH: I want to say this. There are a lot of people that would say, here’s Donny, he’s living in his rich home. He’s living on the Upper East Side, he’s rich, and he’s got weird art behind him. And he’s disconnected. Make no mistake, Donny, Donny got that home by understanding what Americans want, as far as brands go, understanding how they connect to Americans. And I will say this, and you may not like a former Republican saying this, with an ad exec saying this, a branding guru saying this. What Donny’s saying, ‘Please, Democrats nationwide, listen to me, it’s really important to understand you were so radically out of step, radically out of step with mainstream voters. There’s a reason why a guy from West Virginia and sort of conservative moderate from Arizona, made you the majority, along with two people in Georgia who were made winners by Donald Trump.’
Donny, I just I want to go back to this. You and I have been around the same circles at times, even though I’m not in New York City guy. But we’ve been to dinners. We’ve been to book events over the past 15 years. I can tell you there were so many times when it was just unanimously, I would hear it and roll my eyes, Democrats, good guys, Republicans, bad guys, Democrats, rational, Republicans crazy, Democrats on issues right there where we are– All I’ve heard over the past year, it’s been remarkable, is I’m going to grit my teeth and vote for Joe Biden because Donald Trump is a fascist, and he is a threat to the American way of life. But if I had any excuse to vote against the Democrats, I would do it because they are so progressive, and so wildly out of step with mainstream America. I’m not talking about Brooklyn. I understand. I’m not talking about San Fran, I understand there are pockets where that progressivism needs to be represented. And we need progressivism represented in Congress. I’m talking the National Party. I have never heard such unrest in all my life against any party, as I am against the Democratic Party because of their policies, and how wildly out of step they are mainstream America and I’m going to get killed on Twitter today. And guess what? Guess what? I don’t care. You know why? Because Twitter isn’t mainstream America. Donny I’m hearing this from life long liberals, lifelong progressives on a variety of issues.
DEUTSCH: This is the world I live in. I live on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. It cannot be more navy blue. And this is what I’m hearing. By the way, there were Bill Clinton voters, there were Barack Obama voters, there weren’t Joe Biden voters. They were anti Trump voters. Alright? And Joe Biden does not have the hearts and minds of this country. And the other Democrats that we see being paraded forward, the AOC’s of the world, the far-left, are suicide for the Democrats. So the Democrats better get some new faces and the Democrats better figure out that this world lives just right of center or on a good year, just left of center and it’s this socialist kind of pulling all the way to the left is a disaster. And we are staring at a democracy in peril. This is not just, ‘Oh, I like this issue. I don’t like this issue.’ We don’t get this right in 2024, it ain’t ever going to be right. This should sounding the alarm bells on what’s going on now. It’s just, our democracy is really at stake. And the Democrats need to understand where the world lives.
