A mom accused of killing her two young children has eerie similarities to Lindsay Clancy.

Janette MacAusland allegedly strangled her children in her $1.5 million Massachusetts home, just 40 miles north of where Clancy killed her children, before MacAusland fled to Vermont.

A coroners’ report released on Wednesday revealed the two young children died from intoxication caused by multiple drugs, in addition to asphyxia, The New York Post reported.

MacAusland’s children, 6-year-old Ella and 7-year-old Kai, were found dead in their beds in April. The new report revealed their deaths stemmed from mechanical asphyxia along with “combined effects of substances including zolpidem, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and lorazepam,” per the Boston Globe.

Acetaminophen and ibuprofen are common pain killers, Zolpidem is used to treat insomnia, and lorazepam is used to treat anxiety.

The coroners’ report comes just days after 49-year-old MacAusland was indicted on first-degree murder charges.

MacAusland, who works in acupuncture, went to her aunt’s house in Vermont after allegedly killing her kids. She showed up in a “hysterical state” covered in blood with a huge gash on her neck, per court documents obtained by WCAX.

MacAusland told her aunt that she murdered her kids and then thought about jumping off a bridge but couldn’t bring herself to do it, according to a statement her aunt provided to authorities, per the Post. She also allegedly admitted to the killings when cops arrived at the Vermont home.

“I strangled them and then I tried to kill myself,” Janette told cops, according to court documents.

Similarly, Clancy admitted to killing her children in January of 2023 before slashing her wrists and jumping out of a window. Clancy claimed she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and therefore not responsible for the slayings. Her trial ended in a mistrial in September after one juror refused to go along with the other 11 jurors and find Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity.

MacAusland is being held without bond at the Western Massachusetts Regional Women’s Correctional Center in Chicopee, Massachusetts, about two hours from where Clancy’s trial took place earlier this year.

MacAusland’s arraignment at Norfolk Superior Court is set for November 3.

If found guilty, she faces life in prison without parole.
