As reported by The Daily Wire earlier this week, progressives pounced on Boston Red Sox star J.D. Martinez for a five-year-old pro-Second Amendment Instagram post. And although Martinez was forced by the leftist mob into apologizing for committing the grave sin of possibly “offending” someone, the slugger stood firm in his pro-Second Amendment stance, explaining to liberal reporters that his family has had first-hand experience with the brutal dictatorial regime of Fidel Castro in Cuba.
“As most of you guys know I’m Cuban-American, and most of my family was run out of Cuba because of a brutal dictator,” Martinez told a swarm of reporters on Tuesday. “It’s terrible. It’s one of those things where I’ll never get to meet some of my family because of it.”
“I love my country. I stand by the Constitution and I stand by the Second Amendment,” he continued. “It’s something I take pride in and it’s something I’ll back up.”
“Everybody has a right to stand by what they believe in and that’s what makes us American,” added Martinez, according to the New York Daily News. “We’re not all going to believe in the same things, but that’s what makes this country so great.”
At age 26, Martinez posted a meme of Adolf Hitler with the quote, “To conquer a nation, first disarm it’s [sic] citizens.” He captioned the photo, “This is why I always stay strapped! #TheTruth.”
The quote, it turns out, cannot be confirmed as made by Hitler. But, as noted by The Blaze, the meme was likely generated in the sentiment of a different statement about disarming the masses from the genocidal dictator:
“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subjugated races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subjugated races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing.” — Hitler’s Table Talk, 1941-1944: Secret Conversations
