Miss Puerto Rico, Destiny Velez, was suspended from the Miss Universe competition for voicing her opinion of filmmaker Michael Moore’s condemnation of Donald Trump, and in the process, making some vehement statements about Muslims.
Moore had slammed Trump for his comments about Muslims, even standing in front of Trump Towers in Manhattan and wearing a sign reading ”We are all Muslims.”
Velez, incensed, unleashed a series of tweets excoriating Moore and his campaign, as reported by Twitchy. Velez later deleted them after a firestorm broke out, but they read like this:

The Miss Puerto Rico Organization issued a statement publicly condemned Velez and suspending her from competition, writing:
In regards to Miss Puerto Rico, Destiny Velez’s, recent actions and conduct; the Miss Puerto Rico Organization feels that her words do not represent the integrity and esteem of our program, nor that of our board members, our sponsors and partners, or the National Organization.
Miss Velez’s actions were in contradiction to the organization, and therefore as a consequence of her actions, she has been suspended indefinitely. The Miss Puerto Rico Organization will not tolerate any actions or behavior contrary to the Miss Puerto Rico Organization … The Miss Puerto Rico Organization apologizes for the distress that Miss Velez’s actions and conduct may have caused.
Velez later released a series of tweets that read in total, “I apologize to the people I have offended with my words. I am first and foremost an #UpStander and as such I stand up against bullying. The last thing I wanted to do was to bully anyone. Again, I apologize to anyone who felt offended with my words.”
