President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, changed his party affiliation today from Republican to Democrat.
Cohen changed his registration online with the Albany-based New York State board of elections around noon, according to Axios. In 2003 Cohen ran as a Republican for the New York City Council. Cohen later registered as a Democrat until 2017 before serving as the Republican Party’s deputy finance chair until June.
Cohen pleaded guilty to eight felony charges in June, two of which involved violating campaign finance law by paying two woman who claim to have had an affair with Trump. Trump accused Cohen of “flipping” to get a better plea deal.
Cohen’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, created the “Michael Cohen Truth Fund” to help pay for legal expenses to help his client “tell the truth about Donald Trump” amassing over $175,000 in donations. Davis also claimed Cohen had information about Trump and Russian “collusion” but later walked it back resulting in the upset of many donors.
