Following Tuesday’s midterm, left-wing feminists have been shouting from the rooftops about the historic victory for women, often neglecting the fact that some of those women were pro-life. LifeNews profiled a few that should have pro-lifers celebrating.
Of course, the biggest winner on Tuesday night was none other than Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who beat former Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen for the Tennessee U.S. Senate seat. As noted by LifeNews, Blackburn is “100 percent pro-life” and has it out for Planned Parenthood. She also supports President Trump’s agenda on immigration and building the wall.
“I stand for hundreds of millions of of honest Americans who work hard and play by the rules. I stand for the greatest country the world has ever known,” Blackburn said upon announcing her Senate run. “I stand when the president walks in the room, and yes, I stand when I hear The Star Spangled Banner.”
Over in Iowa, the pro-life Gov. Kim Reynolds defeated her Democratic opponent Fred Hubbell. Reynolds previously signed a fetal heartbeat abortion ban into law. In South Dakota, the pro-life Rep. Kristi Noem became the state’s first female governor by beating South Dakota minority leader Billie Sutton.
“I am, and always have been, pro-life. I believe every life, including the unborn, has dignity, and my voting record will always reflect that belief,” Noem’s website reads.
Though the race between the pro-life Martha McSally and the far-left Kyrsten Sinema remains too close to call, McSally currently leads that race — 49.3% to 48.4%.
“The contrast between the candidates is stark on nearly every issue,” reports LifeNews. “McSally served as a military officer and was deployed six times to the Middle East and Afghanistan before becoming a state representative. Sinema was previously an anti-war activist.”
Some of the other pro-life wins came in the form of amendments. West Virginia voted in favor of Amendment 1 for the state’s constitution, which says, “Nothing in this Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or requires the funding of abortion.”
The state of Alabama enacted Statewide Amendment 2, affirming, “the constitution of this state does not protect the right to abortion or require the funding of abortion.”
March For Life Vice President Tom McClusky said on Wednesday that the amendments prove Americans do not always agree with the Supreme Court. “West Virginia and Alabama both highlighted that when left up to the American people they are pro-life,” McClusky said in a statement reported by LifeNews. “Other states should follow their example and prepare for the inevitable when abortion is unthinkable.”
Conversely, prominent pro-choice senators like Heidi Heitkamp in North Dakota and Claire McCaskill in Missouri lost their bid for re-election. Stacey Abrams also lost her bid for governor in Georgia, though she refuses to concede.
