Mariah Carey once tried to trademark the name “Queen of Christmas,” but in a late-night TV appearance Wednesday, the songstress said if the title belongs to anyone, it would be the Virgin Mary.

During the 52-year-old singer’s appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the pop singer shut down the host when he started out a question in her interview with, “Because you are the Queen of Christmas…”

“First of all, may I say I never called myself the Queen of Christmas. Can we please be clear on that?” Carey insisted.

“But others have [said], ‘the self-proclaimed Queen of Christmas.’ I’m like, ‘really? I’m gonna do that?'” the superstar singer shared. “They can look up every interview I’ve ever done, and not to get super religious, but if anybody would be the Queen of Christmas that would be Mary.”

“Christmas is for all,” she added. “And I just happened to actually really love Christmas because I grew up and I had kind of a tough childhood. And I always wanted Christmas to be perfect. And it never was.”

The “All I Want For Christmas Is You” hitmaker lost her bid to trademark “Queen of Christmas,” a moniker she’s been referred to as for years, after the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected her bid last month.

Carey recently made an appearance in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Twitter followers had a field day with the singer as she appeared to lip-sync her performance, as The Daily Wire previously reported.

In a video posted on YouTube, the singer was decked out wearing an off-the-shoulder, hot-pink, floor-length dress while holding a sparkling umbrella in one hand and a microphone in the other. She wore a tiara, and she stood on a giant star.

Carey tried to make it look like she was singing her monster hit Christmas song, but it appeared from the footage that the music was just playing in the background, and many Twitter users accused her of lip-syncing, the New York Post noted. Others noticed that the “One Sweet Day” hitmaker was flanked on all sides by dozens of energetic dancers as she basically just stood motionless.
