President Donald Trump’s super PAC is turning a failed 2024 Democrat talking point against Texas Senate candidate James Talarico.
A new ad from MAGA Inc. describes Talarico as “very weird” for claiming Jesus was a “radical feminist” who said there are more than two sexes. During the 2024 presidential election, Democrats used the “weird” attack angle to paint Trump and Vice President JD Vance as out of touch with Americans.
“James Talarico is weird, very weird,” the new ad says before playing Talarico’s bizarre comments on Christianity and gender.
Talarico previously proclaimed that, “There are many more than two biological sexes. In fact, there are six,” “Jesus Christ himself was a radical feminist,” “God is non-binary,” and “I always think of myself as a Christian who hates Christianity.”
“Six sexes? Jesus a radical feminist? A Christian who hates Christianity? Liberal weirdo James Talarico. Too loco for Texas,” the ad concludes.
In recent months, Talarico has tried to rebrand himself to appear more palatable to Texas voters. He claims some of his past comments “missed the mark” and has walked back numerous policy positions.
The “weird” ad echoes a line of attack on Talarico Trump made back in May.
“I’ll tell you what I do think — I think the Democrats have a weird, a weird candidate. Six genders, a real hit on Jesus,” Trump said in May. “I think the candidate the Democrats have in Texas is a very flawed, very weak, very — I think he’s a pathetic candidate, especially for Texas.”
The Trump-aligned MAGA Inc. has committed at least $15 million to aid Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is on the ballot against Talarico. Polls appear to show a surprisingly tight race in a state where Democrats have not won statewide in decades.
The “weird” line of attack is familiar to voters. Democrats repeatedly painted Vance as weird during the 2024 presidential election. Vance responded to the criticism by calling it “projection” from “people who want to give transgender hormones to 9-year-old kids and want biological males to play in women’s sports.”
Despite the line of attack, Trump and Vance would go on to win the popular vote in 2024, the first for a Republican ticket since 2004.
