The decade's most triggering comedy
Chicago Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot, irate after Texas GOP Governor Greg Abbott had announced he would bus illegal immigrants to her city, attacked him, calling him a racist.
Despite Lightfoot’s prior boasts that Chicago was a “sanctuary city,” Lightfoot felt compelled to derogate the idea of more illegal immigrants arriving in her strife-torn city.
“He is a man without any morals, humanity or shame,” Lightfoot raged, charging he had “inhumanely load them onto buses,” then cited “Gov. Abbott’s racist and xenophobic practices of expulsion.”
But Seth Christensen, chief of media and communications at the Texas Division of Emergency Management, informed Fox News that the buses had air conditioning, food, water, and security personnel.
In the same speech in which she attacked Abbott for sending the immigrants, Lightfoot claimed, “We are Chicago, a welcoming city, a city where we live our values every single day — a city where immigrants and refugees have been a part of the fabric of the city from our earliest days.”
Fox News reported that roughly 75 migrants had arrived in Chicago.
Abbott had announced the transport to Chicago’s Union station on Wednesday, the third city Abbott has targeted as part of his response to President Biden’s border policies that have overwhelmed Texas with a deluge of illegal immigrants.
“President Biden’s inaction at our southern border continues putting the lives of Texans—and Americans—at risk and is overwhelming our communities,” Abbott stated. “To continue providing much-needed relief to our small, overrun border towns, Chicago will join fellow sanctuary cities Washington, D.C. and New York City as an additional drop-off location.”
Abbott then took aim at Lightfoot: “Mayor Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of her city to welcome all regardless of legal status, and I look forward to seeing this responsibility in action as these migrants receive resources from a sanctuary city with the capacity to serve them.”
Renea Eze, Abbott’s press secretary, slammed Lightfoot, calling her an “absolute hypocrite.”
“Where was her outrage and condemnation of President Biden as he flew planeloads of migrants across the country and dropped them in communities in the cover of night?” Eze asked Fox News Digital. “Mayor Lightfoot knows nothing about Texas’ busing strategy and needs to stop with the baseless lies and fearmongering. Texas continues stepping up and responding to the Biden-made border crisis, taking unprecedented action to address the historic levels of illegal immigrants, terrorists and deadly drugs like fentanyl that are surging into our communities and overwhelming border towns.”
“If the mayor wants a solution to this humanitarian crisis, she should stop complaining and call on President Biden to take immediate action to secure the border — something the President continues failing to do,” she concluded.
Since April, Texas has transported roughly 7,000 illegal immigrants to Washington D.C. and New York City.
