London Mayor Sadiq Khan returned to his anti-Trump antics by calling the President of the United States a “six-foot-three child” while speaking at an education conference Saturday, reports The Guardian.
“For those of you that have your phones on, if somebody starts tweeting about me – a 6ft 3 child in the White House – can you let me know?” Khan said at the Together for Education event at Central Hall in Westminster.
Khan, the mayor to one of the world’s most important cities, has been relentless in his attacks against President Trump, and those attacks often go beyond just criticizing Trump’s politics. On the eve of President Trump traveling to Britain for a state visit, the mayor actually said that Queen Elizabeth II should not dignify the president by hosting him, as if Trump were a vicious foreign dictator.
“Of course we should have a close relationship with the president of the United States, but we shouldn’t be rolling out the red carpet; we shouldn’t have a state banquet,” Khan said. “History tells us only two presidents have had a state visit. “I think President Trump is certainly not in the same class as those two.”
Khan said he takes particular issue with President Trump’s past comments about women.
“The impression is being given that you can get away from it — that you get a get-out-of-jail card. But it’s worse than that,” Khan said. “There’s a boasting and bragging, it’s almost like a green light for others to behave badly.”
The feud between Mayor Khan and President Trump escalated when Khan penned an op-ed in The Observer in which he likened Trump’s rhetoric to “fascists of the 20th century.”
“Donald Trump is just one of the most egregious examples of a growing global threat,” Khan wrote. “The far right is on the rise around the world, threatening our hard-won rights and freedoms and the values that have defined our liberal, democratic societies for more than seventy years … And they are gaining ground and winning power and influence in places that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.”
Not being one to take it lying down, President Trump hit back against Khan’s critique on Twitter, asserting that Khan has done “a terrible job as Mayor” while likening him to Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City.
“Sadiq Khan, who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London, has been foolishly ‘nasty’ to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me,” the president wrote. “Kahn reminds me very much of our very dumb and incompetent Mayor of NYC, de Blasio, who has also done a terrible job – only half his height. In any event, I look forward to being a great friend to the United Kingdom, and am looking very much forward to my visit.”
Trump and Khan have had a tumultuous relationship ever since the 2016 election, during which the then-candidate issued harsh critiques of Islam as Khan went on to become the city’s first Muslim mayor.
