June Chu, the Dean of Yale University’s Pierson College, is a self-professed advocate for supporting students’ “holistic academic experience and multifaceted identities.” However, her persona as a culturally-sensitive advocate for all students regardless of identity got called into question when students discovered her Yelp account. Here are some examples of her Yelp reviews:
For a Japanese restaurant that she disliked:
Put it quite simply: If you are white trash, this is the perfect night out for you! This establishment is definitely not authentic by any stretch of any imagination and perfect for those low class folks who believe this is a real night out. Over salted and greasy food.
Side note: employees are Chinese, not Japanese.
For a movie theater:
Good lord talk about idiocy and incompetence! Where the hell in this day and age would there be no separate line for just tickets? So what they have is barely educated morons trying to manage snack orders for the obese and also try to add $7 plus $7. Unfortunately it’s this or the Hanover Nugget but heaven forbid the Nugget get movies which pander to the masses. You’ve got no choice and like a fool I remain in line with all the other idiots.
Another restaurant:
I guess if you were a white person who has no clue what mochi is, this would be fine for you.
After Yale students published these elitist and anti-white comments, Chu deleted the account and apologized to the students, writing the following:
I have learned a lot this semester about the power of words and about the accountability that we owe one another. My remarks were wrong. There are no two ways about it. Not only were they insensitive in matters related to class and race; they demean the values to which I hold myself and which I offer as a member of this community.
While Yale College Dean Jonathan Holloway has not asked for Chu’s resignation, Yale University did have another college dean resign following a series of controversies. Nicholas and Erika Christakis resigned from their administrative posts at Silliman College following backlash when Mrs. Christakis sent an email regarding Halloween costumes that angered the leftist thought police. The university did nothing to protect liberal values or their employees.
