President Trump stabbed conservatives in the back, reaching a deal with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) to combine Hurricane Harvey aid with a three-month debt ceiling increase and advocating for Congress to codify the Deferred Action for Child Arrivals (DACA) program into law.
Naturally, Mark Levin, who is one of the guiding lights of the conservative movement, was not pleased with the President’s actions.
“I haven’t seen Chuck Schumer this happy since he stopped being constipated,” Levin quipped on his Wednesday radio program.
Levin pointed out that Trump has “completely backtracked” on his earlier support of shutting down the government in order to obtain funding for the wall, giving him zero leverage on the matter and further worsening America’s debt crisis.
“Is there no moral responsibility for what’s going on with our government?” Levin asked.
After smacking down the absurd notion that government aid for Texas and Florida over the hurricanes is inconsistent with conservative philosophy, Levin zeroed back in on Trump for agreeing “to increase the debt limit without getting a damn thing.”
“All the leverage thrown out the window,” Levin lamented.
On DACA, Levin gave Trump a simple piece of advice: “Follow the Constitution, Mr. President.”
“What Obama did was unconstitutional when he did it, and it’s unconstitutional today,” Levin said.
While Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) deserve to be criticized for being spineless, Trump has done an about-face on DACA since the campaign.
“Mr. President, you campaigned on this, just as you campaigned on the wall,” said Levin, “and you’re throwing it out the window.”
Levin concluded the segment by lamenting that Trump, Ryan and McConnell don’t “seem to give a damn about” the Constitution.
