In a New York Times piece published Friday, former Late Show host David Letterman unloaded on Republican nominee Donald Trump for his contentious remarks about some Mexican illegal immigrants and his mocking of disabled New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski. Letterman categorized the business man as a “damaged human being,” adding he is “a person to be shunned.”
“If I had a show, I would have gone right after him,” said Letterman. Addressing Trump’s mocking of Kovaleski, he added, “I would have said something like, ‘Hey, nice to see you. Now, let me ask you: what gives you the right to make fun of a human who is less fortunate, physically, than you are?’”
Letterman conceded that his disapproval of Trump had nothing to do with policy, but was based solely on Trump’s “behavior.”
“And maybe that’s where it would have ended,” the former talk show host continued. “Because I don’t know anything about politics. I don’t know anything about trade agreements. I don’t know anything about China devaluing the yuan. But if you see somebody who’s not behaving like any other human you’ve known, that means something. They need an appointment with a psychiatrist. They need a diagnosis and they need a prescription.”

Letterman also spoke of his appearance in a Hillary Clinton attack ad on Trump, a clip of the former Late Show host pulling out the Manhattan socialite’s ties and shirts to point out that they were made in China, while hosting him on his show.
“I was flattered,” he stated. “I was pleased. I felt like I still have a small voice in this. I thought it was good.”
