A Loudoun County dad whose “Figure it out” speech at a school board meeting went viral in 2021 announced on Wednesday that he is running for Congress.

Brandon Michon made the announcement on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Wednesday, saying he would run in the 10th District of Virginia.

“We’re going to let parents have their voice back,” Michon said.

“I’m so happy to be jumping in this race, so happy to represent so many people who may not have the same opportunity or be in a position to speak up. We just want to raise the bar,” he added.

Michon, whose first name is Brandon, also said he will be happy to hear the popular chant “Let’s Go Brandon” on the campaign trail. The phrase is even included in the images for his campaign website revealed on Twitter on Wednesday.

Michon became known as the “angry parent” at a January 2021 school board meeting where he told school board members they should be fired and challenged them to “figure it out.”

“You should all be fired from your day jobs, because if your employers knew that you were more inefficient than the DMV, you would be replaced in a heartbeat. I literally just finished a conference call because I’m having to multitask to be here to address you guys. You’re a bunch of cowards hiding behind our children as an excuse for keeping schools closed,” Michon said.

“You think you’re some sort of martyrs because of the decisions you’re making when the statistics do not lie that the vast majority of the population is not at risk from this virus. The garbage workers who pick up my freaking trash risk their lives every day more than anyone in this school system! Figure it out! Or get off the podium! Because you know what? There are people like me and a line of other people out there who will gladly take your seat and figure it out! It’s not a high bar! Raise the freaking bar!” he added.

The emotional speech led to many interview opportunities and spread quickly through media and online.

Public education also became a key part of Virginia’s election for governor in 2021. Republican Glenn Youngkin won in part due to his strong emphasis on restoring education rights to parents.

Youngkin signed his first executive order just hours after taking office on January 15, promising “to restore excellence in education by ending the use of divisive concepts, including Critical Race Theory” in public schools.

The Daily Wire previously reported on Youngkin’s plans to restore excellence to education:

WMAL interviewed Youngkin Tuesday morning and asked him directly what his plans were for making his first executive order a reality.

“We have instructed the secretary of education and our state’s superintendent of public schools, to go to work and evaluate raising standards,” Youngkin told the hosts. “We are right now, ranked roughly 50th in the nation when it comes to standards, and I challenged everyone that by the time that we’re done together, over this next four years, to be number one.”

“So it’s going to be a systematic process to raise those standards again,” he continued. “Oh, by the way, it was a process that was undertaken by unelected bureaucrats who did this to Virginia. And we are going to go back and turn it around and I have absolutely instructed our education department to get it done.”
