On Saturday, President Trump rescinded an invitation to the White House for basketball player, Stephen Curry, who made it known on Friday that he wasn’t keen on making the trip with his championship team:
Trump hasn’t clarified whether or not the withdrawn invitation applies only to Curry, or the entire Warriors team.
Regardless, the president’s tweet has gotten a lot of attention. Perhaps most notably, basketball superstar, LeBron James, called Trump a “bum.”
Some on social media had fun with the school-yard fight between the president and professional athletes:
Saturday afternoon, James elaborated on his “bum” tweet in a video posted by @Uninterrupted:
Just giving y’all a little bit more in depth insight about my tweet from earlier. You know, I think it’s basically at a point where I’m kind of just a little frustrated, man, because this guy that we’ve put in charge has tried to divide us once again.
And obviously, we all know what happened with Charlottesville, and the divide that that caused. And now, it’s even hit more home for me now even more because he’s now using sports as the platform to try to divide us.
We all know how much sports brings us together, how much passion it has, how much we love and care, the friendships and everything that it creates, and for him to try to use this platform to divide us even more is not something I can stand for, and is not something I can be quiet about.
You look at him kind of asking the NFL owners to get rid of players off the field because they’re exercising their rights, and that’s not right. And then, you know, when I wake up, I see that a colleague of mine has been uninvited of something he said he didn’t even want to go to in the first place, you know to the White House, that’s just something I can’t stand for, man.
…all these people are speaking up, you know, and it’s for the greater cause, it’s for us to all come together. It’s not about a division, it’s not about a divide. We, as American people, need to actually just come together even more stronger, man, because this is a very critical time.
President Trump has yet to respond to LeBron’s remarks.
