The investigation into the origin of the cocaine found in the White House was “the best” the Secret Service could do, despite not identifying a suspect, a top Biden administration official says.

John Kirby, the coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council, told Fox News host Shannon Bream on “Fox News Sunday” that at the end of the probe, there wasn’t enough “forensic evidence” to pinpoint the perpetrator. On July 2, a bag of cocaine was discovered in a lobby of the West Wing.

“I can’t really speak to the investigation that was done by the Secret Service,” Kirby said when Bream asked him, “What if it was something more dangerous?”

“They did the best they could to track down how it got there and who it might have belonged to and they just were not able to come up with any forensic evidence that proves it,” Kirby added.

Kirby went on to explain that the cocaine was discovered in a “visitors lobby area,” which is “highly trafficked.” He said the administration has taken the discovery “seriously” and that the administration would take a look at how it could have gotten into the White House.

“If there’s things we can do to prevent that in the future, we certainly will do that,” Kirby said. “Nobody’s happy about this.”

On Thursday, the Secret Service concluded its investigation into the source of the cocaine, saying that no fingerprints or DNA were discovered on the bag. The federal agency also reportedly reviewed video surveillance and visitor logs, but those attempts came up empty.

Some initially suspected that Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, could be behind the scandal, as he had appeared at the White House before the announcement of the discovery and has previously battled drug addiction, including cocaine use. A source, however, told NBC that the “leading theory” is that the substance was left by a visitor on a tour that weekend.

Some Republicans have accused the White House of initiating a “coverup” to protect the president.

“Just left the most ridiculous meeting of all time with the Secret Service on the cocaine that was found in the White House,” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) said in a video he recorded after a briefing on the investigation. “It turns out – they don’t know who did it. The investigation is going to be over at the end of the week, and they’re not going to find out who did it. And that’s basically it.”

“Another coverup,” Burchett continued. “You know, it’s the most secure building in the entire world. Nobody, not even the press, goes in there without them knowing.”

Even former President Donald Trump, the current frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, weighed in on the controversy, calling it a “two tier level of justice.”

“Despite all of the cameras pointing directly at the ‘scene of the crime,’ and the greatest forensics anywhere in the World, they just can’t figure it out? They know the answer, and so does everyone else!” Trump posted to Truth Social.
