King Charles III said he’s feeling emotional about the outpouring of support he received from well-wishers as he undergoes cancer treatment.

The 75-year-old monarch revealed his thoughts while speaking with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, per BBC.

“Wonderful to see you looking so well,” Sunak said to Charles. He responded with a joke, saying, “It’s all done by mirrors.”

“We’re all behind you, the country is behind you,” Sunak said.

“I’ve had so many wonderful messages and cards which reduce me to tears most of the time,” Charles said of what’s happened since the diagnosis went public.

“I hear that there’s been a lot more attention and interest on those main, wonderful cancer charities, many of which I’ve been patron for years,” he added.

His Majesty expressed a similar sentiment with an Instagram post shared last week.

“I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days,” Charles wrote in the caption, which was shared to the official royal family account.

“As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement,” he continued.

“It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world. My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience.”

The British royal announced earlier this month that he was diagnosed with cancer and would begin treatments. His diagnosis came on the heels of Charles going in for surgery for an enlarged prostate, though the statement said he did not have prostate cancer.

“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted,” the statement from Buckingham Palace said. “Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.”
