After <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kelly-clarkson-reveals-gift-she-gets-from-taylor-swift-after-every-new-taylors-version-drops" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kelly Clarkson</a> belted out one of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/katy-perry-backup-singer-says-she-turned-down-a-solo-pop-career-for-god" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Katy Perry&#8217;s</a> hit songs &#8220;Wide Awake,&#8221; the &#8220;American Idol&#8221; judge quipped that she &#8220;can never sing it again.&#8221;
During a recent episode of &#8220;The Kelly Clarkson Show&#8221; the host treated viewers with her cover of Perry&#8217;s popular 2012 song. 
The clip of her singing was posted on the show&#8217;s <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C4td4uJuEzV/">social media page</a> and it was clear from everyone&#8217;s comments on the post, including Perry&#8217;s, that Clarkson nailed it, as reported by <a href="https://www.bustle.com/entertainment/katy-perry-kelly-clarkson-wide-awake-cover?utm_source=instagram&amp;utm_medium=owned&amp;utm_campaign=bustle&amp;utm_content=later-41935983">Bustle.</a>
&#8220;This performance is perfection!&#8221; one person wrote on Instagram. &#8220;I love the rearrangement.&#8221;
Another fan added, &#8220;This might be better than the original.&#8221;

While a third person wrote, &#8220;Once Kelly covers your song, it&#8217;s no longer your song. She makes it her own and you never get it back.&#8221;
Amid the buzz, Perry herself reacted to the performance. &#8220;Ok ,dang I can never sing that again,&#8221; she said.
The clip was also posted to X, and received a similar array of compliments.
Released as the last single from her hit album &#8220;Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection,&#8221; Perry’s song peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She later said the inspiration from the song came from &#8220;major life changes,&#8221; including her divorce from actor Russell Brand, per Bustle.
&#8220;It&#8217;s kind of like the labyrinth of my life in the last two years,&#8221; Perry told MTV. &#8220;I just wanted to tell a story about myself kind of going through this journey, maybe sometimes trying to get out of the maze. There&#8217;s good parts, there&#8217;s bad parts, and the whole time there&#8217;s the younger version of me leading me through.&#8221;
Clarkson, who rose to fame by winning the very first season of &#8220;American Idol&#8221; in 2002, previously covered two other Perry hits during the musical segment of her talk show that airs on NBC. One was the 2013 hit song &#8220;Roar&#8221; and the other the 2011 song &#8220;The One That Got Away.&#8221;
In 2020, Clarkson congratulated Perry on her 2020 single &#8220;Daisies,&#8221; <a href="https://twitter.com/kellyclarkson/status/1278269805691199488?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">writing</a> on Twitter, which has since been rebranded to X, &#8220;Get it [Katy Perry] you look BEAUTIFUL in this video #bytheway.&#8221;
Perry <a href="https://twitter.com/katyperry/status/1278548940669870080" target="_blank" rel="noopener">replied</a> to Clarkson, &#8220;Thank you friend.&#8221; She added two emojis, including a smiling face with heart-shaped eyes and a heart.
