Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre did not shed much light on the still-unfolding situation regarding the classified documents found in President Joe Biden’s possession — and while she stone-walled reporters on the subject during Friday’s briefing, Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy later revealed what he would have asked.
Doocy spoke with “America Reports” anchor John Roberts during Friday’s broadcast, and Roberts casually brought up the fact that Jean-Pierre had “passed [him] over” and hadn’t given any straight answers regarding the classified documents.
“She passed you over today,” Roberts remarked.
“Ah — I don’t know why,” Doocy shrugged, smiling, but then he went on to reveal to Roberts the question he had been planning to ask — especially in light of the news that Biden planned to leave Washington, D.C., and spend the weekend at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.
“If I would’ve had an opportunity to ask a question, the first one I have on my sheet was: Why is President Biden going to Wilmington today, isn’t that a potential crime scene?” Doocy asked.
Doocy went on to say that the White House was not offering much in the way of new information, adding that the only clear statements coming from the administration on the classified documents issue — which he said had reached the level of “scandal” — were that they “take it seriously” and they “are going to cooperate.”
The Fox News correspondent did get a direct response from Biden on Thursday, just after news broke that classified documents had been discovered in his garage.
“Classified material next to your Corvette? What were you thinking?” Doocy asked.
“Let me, I’m going to get a chance to speak on all this, God willing soon, but as I said earlier this week, people and, by the way my Corvette’s in a locked garage, OK? So it’s not like they’re sitting out in the street,” Biden replied.
Fox News Radio’s Guy Benson noted later that Biden appeared to have been reading his responses from a cue card but went off-book when Doocy mentioned the Corvette. Noting that a “locked garage” was hardly the standard for classified material, Benson argued that Doocy’s question may have forced Biden into an admission he had not planned to make.
