Human biology may only know two sexes, but California senator and 2020 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris (D-CA) apparently thinks that there should be more than two gender options for purposes of the federal government IDs and other documents. Politico reports:
Sen. Kamala Harris said Tuesday that she supports placing a third gender option on federal identification cards and documents, bolstering her record on LGBTQ issues.
Harris was asked about adding a third gender option during an event at Keene State College in New Hampshire. “Sure,” she replied.
Harris — a product of the San Francisco Bay Area with a long record on LGBTQ rights, including refusing to defend a ban on same-sex marriage as attorney general of California — used the question to denounce what she described as rising hate in America.
According to Fox News, Harris elaborated later in the day: “It’s a simple point. There needs to be another category. And I’m open to the idea of doing that. And I think that it’s a good idea.”
In February, Harris’s 2020 nomination rival Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) similarly came out in favor of a “third gender” option for federal government IDs and other assorted documents. The Hill reported, at the time:
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) reportedly said she would support for federal recognition of a third gender Friday at a campaign event in New Hampshire.
The senator, who is running for president in 2020, told a room of LGBTQ activists that she would support a third designation of “X” at the federal level for those not identifying as a man or woman, according to CBS News.
“Yes,” Gillibrand said when asked if she would support such a designation at the federal level, according to CBS, which noted that she received applause from activists for her quick answer.
Harris has generally tried to appease many left-leaning archetypes since announcing her run for the presidential nomination. As The Daily Wire reported in February, Harris frustrated her Jamaican father by invoking his ethnic background in reference to her previous marijuana use:
As The Washington Times reports, Mr. Donald Harris — a professor of economics at Stanford University — is none too happy with his daughter’s casual joking about her Jamaican background in invoking her previous marijuana use.
“My dear departed grandmother … as well as my deceased parents, must be turning in their grave right now to see their family’s name, reputation and proud Jamaican identity being connected, in any way, jokingly or not with the fraudulent stereotype of a pot-smoking joy seeker and in the pursuit of identity politics,” Mr. Harris told Jamaica Global Online. “[As a family,] we wish to categorically dissociate ourselves from this travesty,” he added.
Prediction market website PredictIt currently has Harris pegged as the fourth most likely Democratic nominee. In a Daily Wire op-ed last month, I predicted that the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination will come down to Harris and socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT):
That leaves Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris. Bernie, the Sandinista-supporting, “hammer and sickle” flag-waving, Soviet Union-honeymooning Marxist, will take on the heir apparent to Barack Obama’s identity politics coalition of variegated aggrieved interest groups. It will be a battle royale for the heart and soul of the Left. The Orwellian “economic justice” class warfare wing will go to battle against the Orwellian “social justice” identitarian warfare wing. Democratic voters will have to assess whether they care more about economically totalitarian illiteracy or intellectually totalitarian crass divisiveness. What a choice!
