It’s not even Sweeps Week, but “The Joe & Kamala Show” is pulling out all the stops.
Vice President Kamala Harris has plunged to 28% approval rating in one recent poll, and President Joe Biden is apparently not too happy. One report says she’s not even considered to be Biden’s successor in the White House anymore, while another says the president is considering moving her to the Supreme Court so he can pick a new veep who might have a change to win in 2024. Yet another report says the two top elected officials in the country are at war, prompting desperate Harris aides to defend their bosses, slamming the media for “gossip.”
Meanwhile, Harris has pulled the most impressive disappearing act since The Great Houdini — AWOL on the Southern border crisis and dispatched to Paris for meaningless talks (she also gushed about some pans and skillets she bought on a shopping spree in an embarrassing photo op).
“Joe Biden’s relationship with Kamala Harris is in crisis, with her staff furious that she is being ‘sidelined,’ while the president’s team are increasingly frustrated by how she is playing with American public,” The Daily Mail reported. “Harris’ approval rating has plunged even further than Biden’s in recent months, with rumors swirling that the president is considering appointing her to the Supreme Court as a backdoor method of selecting a new VP.”
CNN chimed in with this: “Many current and former West Wing aides say that Vice President Kamala Harris is not being adequately prepared or positioned, and instead is being sidelined, causing frustration among staffers.”
“Interviews with nearly three dozen former and current Harris aides, administration officials, Democratic operatives, donors and outside advisers — who spoke extensively to CNN — reveal a complex reality inside the White House. Many in the vice president’s circle fume that she’s not being adequately prepared or positioned, and instead is being sidelined. The vice president herself has told several confidants she feels constrained in what she’s able to do politically. And those around her remain wary of even hinting at future political ambitions, with Biden’s team highly attuned to signs of disloyalty, particularly from the vice president,” CNN said.
During the campaign, there were reports that Biden, who turns 79 on Saturday, planned to serve only one term — a stance he has later muddled. But most political watchers think Harris is the likely go-to for the Democrats in 2024.
But the CNN report says Biden and Harris have reached an “exhausted stalemate.”
The president tasked Harris with handling the U.S. border crisis, but it took months for her to visit, then taking only a short trip to El Paso. She also took a trip to Mexico and Guatemala before going to the southern border, but then did a disastrous interview, in which she laughed about not visiting, saying “And I haven’t been to Europe.”
Last week, while on a trip to Paris that went mostly unnoticed by the press, Harris spoke to the press outside of a shop in Paris after buying pots and skillets. She said she was “very concerned” about rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
