Kacey Musgraves and Reese Witherspoon announced plans for a new country music reality TV competition series called “My Kind Of Country” on Apple TV Plus.
The 47-year-old actress tweeted recently that she and the 34-year-old country singer decided there was a need to make country music more “inclusive and representative,” the Washington Examiner reported.
“[MyKindOfCountry] was born out of conversations w/Kacey Musgraves about how country music needs to be more inclusive & representative,” the “Legally Blonde” star tweeted.

Musgraves tweeted Reese’s post and wrote to her hundreds of thousands of followers, “very excited for this.”
The “Big Little Lies” star spoke to Billboard magazine about how the idea of the show started when the two stars were asking the question “‘Why is country music so closed off?'”
“‘Why are there not more global influences and people who have a different perspective?'” Witherspoon told the outlet of their discussion. “Kacey [Musgraves] really illuminated it for me — it’s been a closed-door business for a long time.”
“So this idea [is] to start a country music competition series and make it very international, because the reach of Apple is global,” she added. “An important piece of this is highlighting voices that have not been heard.”
The “Follow Your Arrow” hitmaker told the outlet that she’s “been so moved and floored by being able to tour in places so far away from my home and see that my stories have connected with people there.”
“Being part of this show is another angle of that for me,” she added. “It just shows that no matter where you come from, when it’s brought back to the heart of the matter in the songs, we have the same emotions and the same human connection.”

Three artists were picked as talent scouts to search the world for those who will compete which includes 2021 CMA new artist of the year winner Jimmie Allen, country singer Mickey Guyton, and LGBTQ country artist Orville Peck.
Witherspoon and Musgraves will serve as executive producers on the eight-part series, with the first episode airing on the streaming site on March 24.
