‘Jussie Smollett Can Rest Knowing That His Attacker Has Been Convicted’: Social Media Erupts Following Verdict

After actor Jussie Smollett was found guilty on five counts of disorderly conduct in relation to an alleged hate crime hoax he orchestrated, social media blew up with reaction.

“Tonight, Jussie Smollett can rest knowing that his attacker has been convicted,” Daily Wire emeritus Ben Shapiro mocked.

“Jussie Smollett guilty on first five counts. Sixth count not guilty,” posted The Hill media columnist Joe Concha. “Justice obviously served.”

“Don’t expect any apologies from those who brought this ridiculous take from Day 1, starting with the VP and ABC’s Robin Roberts,” he added.

Radio host Jesse Kelly reacted, “Jussie Smollett lied about being a victim for the same reason [Lebron James] lied about it. And for the same reason Oprah [Winfrey] lied about it. We have so twisted the minds of so many people in this country, they think ‘victim’ is the highest form they can achieve. It’s a sickness.”

James claimed he was the victim of racist vandalism, but the alleged perp was never found. Winfrey has come forward to admit she regretted talking about an alleged racist incident she suffered after a clerk called her a liar.

“Jussie Smollett guilty on 5 felony counts,” wrote journalist Megyn Kelly. “He perpetrated a hate crime hoax & made the road that much tougher for real victims. As for the press & politicos who gleefully bought his obvious nonsense & used it as an excuse to bash America, shame on you too.”

“My favorite part of Jussie Smollett’s hoax was that he left the rope around his neck… LIKE A REAL VICTIM WOULD… So when the cops showed up, he probably pointed to it and said ‘See?!?! They tried to get me with this rope JUST LIKE THIS!’ So f***ing dumb…,” said columnist Tim Young.

Satirical site The Babylon Bee mocked with a headline, “Cruel: Jussie Smollett Will Be Forced To Share A Jail Cell With His Attacker.”

And, finally, The Daily Wire social media team got in on the action, too:

Back in January 2019, Smollett claimed he was targeted and attacked by apparent supporters of President Donald Trump in an anti-gay, anti-black hate crime. His alleged attackers, whom he allegedly described as white males who yelled “This is MAGA country,” were brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo. Notably, the brothers are both black men who knew the “Empire” star before the incident and have claimed Smollett orchestrated the “hoax.” The Daily Wire detailed Smollett’s claim at the time:

Smollett contends he was targeted by two Trump supporters, who verbally and physically accosted him as he was walking home from a Subway sandwich shop in downtown Chicago on January 29. The actor says the men called him a “f*****” and a “n*****,” tied a noose around his neck, poured bleach on him, and kicked him in the ribs.
