<p>Joy Behar trashed billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk during Thursday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;The View,&#8221; claiming that he was a &#8220;foreign agent&#8221; and was &#8220;pro-apartheid&#8221; and asserting that he was effectively running the federal government while President Donald Trump took &#8220;a nap.&#8221;</p>
<p>Behar and her cohosts on the ABC News talk show have been critical of both Trump and Musk since before the inauguration — often suggesting that the latter is actually the one in charge and directing things from the sidelines — but on Thursday&#8217;s show, Behar took things a step further.</p>

<p>&#8220;Elon Musk kisses [Trump&#8217;s] butt and strokes his tiny ego, or big ego, whatever it is,&#8221; Behar began, prompting a smattering of laughter from the audience. &#8220;And he doesn&#8217;t get to do — he can take a nap while the guy, who was not born in this country, who was born under apartheid in South Africa, so has that mentality going on. He was pro-apartheid, as I understand it —&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;He is a naturalized citizen,&#8221; cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin pointed out.</p>
<p>&#8220;He&#8217;s a naturalized citizen,&#8221; Behar repeated. &#8220;Oh, how did he do that? Did he come over the border legally?&#8221;</p>
<p>Griffin said she believed he&#8217;d come to the United States on an H1B Visa, and cohost Sunny Hostin jumped in then to claim that he&#8217;d overstayed that visa, suggesting that made him an illegal immigrant.</p>
<p>&#8220;This is just perfectly wonderful for Trump,&#8221; Behar pivoted back to her original point. &#8220;He can take a nap and let this foreigner, foreign agent, you know, an enemy of the United States, do his job.&#8221;</p>
<p>Cohost Whoopi Goldberg asked whether anyone else wanted to address the topic, and there was a brief pause before Griffin suggested that maybe they should &#8220;give him a little bit of time&#8221; before labeling Musk &#8220;an enemy of the United States.&#8221;</p>
<p>Fox News commentator Guy Benson pushed back on Behar&#8217;s comments, saying, &#8220;When it’s illegal immigrants, they chant that we are a nation of immigrants. When it’s a naturalized citizen they don’t like, this ugly nativism rears its head.&#8221;</p>

<p>Perhaps with an eye toward just such a lawsuit, Behar scrambled to water down her claims when the show returned from a commercial break.</p>
