President Joe Biden took a shot at President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday night after delivering remarks following the passing of former President Jimmy Carter.

“When I endorsed him for president, I told him why [I] was endorsing him and that it was not only his policies but his character, his decency, the honor he communicated to everyone,” Biden said at a press conference.

When asked by a reporter what lesson Trump should take from Carter’s legacy, Biden responded: “Decency.”

“Decency, decency, decency,” Biden said. “Can you imagine Jimmy Carter walking by someone who needed something and just keep walking? Can you imagine Jimmy Carter referring to someone by the way they look or the way they talk? I can’t. I can’t.”

In a statement released by the White House, Biden called Carter “an extraordinary leader, statesman, and humanitarian.”

Calling Carter his “dear friend,” Biden said that he had “compassion and moral clarity.”

“He was a man of great character and courage, hope and optimism,” Biden said. “We will always cherish seeing him and Rosalynn together. The love shared between Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter is the definition of partnership and their humble leadership is the definition of patriotism.”

“And to all of the young people in this nation and for anyone in search of what it means to live a life of purpose and meaning – the good life – study Jimmy Carter, a man of principle, faith, and humility,” Biden added. “He showed that we are great nation because we are a good people – decent and honorable, courageous and compassionate, humble and strong.”
