Governor Gavin Newsom attempted to do battle with Vice President JD Vance over the ongoing riots in Los Angeles and President Donald Trump&#8217;s decision to deploy first National Guard troops and then U.S. Marines to put an end to the violence and destruction of property.
The exchange began with Newsom, who shared a video of Trump taking questions outside the White House. When asked about a social media post in which Newsom had effectively dared Border Czar Tom Homan to detain him, Trump replied, &#8220;I would do it, if I was Tom&#8221; — and then said that Newsom had issued the challenge because he &#8220;likes the publicity.&#8221;
&#8220;The President of the United States just called for the arrest of a sitting Governor,&#8221; Newsom claimed. &#8220;This is a day I hoped I would never see in America. I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican this is a line we cannot cross as a nation — this is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.&#8221;

That was when Vance first entered the conversation, addressing Newsom&#8217;s post by saying, &#8220;Do your job. That’s all we’re asking.&#8221;

Newsom pushed back, claiming that California was doing fine until Trump got involved. He did not mention the fact that California&#8217;s status as a sanctuary state was a violation of federal immigration laws or the fact that the anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles had been violent for two days prior to Trump&#8217;s deployment of the National Guard.

That was when Vance unloaded on Newsom in a lengthy post shared to X.

&#8220;Gavin Newsom says he didn&#8217;t have a problem until Trump got involved. &#8220;Newsom and his stooge Karen Bass fomented and encouraged the riots, because their entire political movement exists for one purpose: to promote mass migration into our country. It is their reason for being,&#8221; Vance continued. &#8220;Democratic leadership has no solution for the economy, for prosperity, or for security. They use their power when they&#8217;re in the majority to import millions of illegal immigrants and when they&#8217;re in opposition they do everything possible to prevent deportations.&#8221;
Vance went on to note that California, under Newsom&#8217;s leadership, had opened Medicaid to illegals — meaning that there were fewer resources available for legal citizens in his state.
&#8220;And now, everything is President Trump&#8217;s fault? Give me a break,&#8221; he added. &#8220;If you want to know why illegal aliens flocked to your state, stop accusing Donald Trump. Look in the mirror. If you want to know why border patrol fear for their lives over enforcing the law, look in the mirror.&#8221;
&#8220;It was your policies that encouraged mass migration into California. Your policies that protected those migrants from common sense law enforcement. Your policies that offered massive welfare benefits to reward illegal immigrants. Your policies that allowed those illegal migrants (and their sympathizers) to assault our law enforcement. Your policies that allowed Los Angeles to turn into a war zone,&#8221; Vance concluded. &#8220;You sure as hell had a problem before President Trump came along. The problem is YOU.&#8221;
