“Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling publicly responded to one of her critics on X, demanding the individual provide receipts.
The billionaire has come under fire in recent years for her stance on radical transgender activism. Critics label Rowling as a TERF, or trans-exclusionary radical feminist, and accuse her of being hostile toward trans-identifying people. This all stems from her refusal to accept that biological men should be referred to as women if they choose.
An X user posted a video of one such critic, which includes that person accusing Rowling of being a “transphobe” and questioning why anyone would continue being “Harry Potter” fans in light of that information.
“Like, she actively says the most horrendous, horrifying, disgusting things about trans people, specifically trans women, on X,” the person said. “How do you still support it …. How do you still read those book?”
“You know that she is actively doing things to hurt the LGBT community,” the video continues, with the person admitting to loving Harry Potter but saying, “I can’t support it because it hurts my siblings.”
The video has close to 6 million views as of Wednesday morning. Rowling herself replied on X, saying she’d love to see an example of what she’s being accused of.
The gentleman might want to supply examples of the horrendous, horrifying, disgusting things I’ve said about trans people. Sounds as though there are loads, so he should have plenty to choose from. Hopefully he won’t suffer the usual attack of delete-itis when challenged. https://t.co/xaAOZH4D3H

Rowling got a lot of support in the comments.
“Would love to see the receipts. They never supply them,” one commenter wrote.
Rowling claims to be “pro-LGBT” but has balked at redefining the word “woman.” The controversy began in 2020 when she reacted to an article referring to women as “people who menstruate.”
“‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?” she tweeted at the time. Since then, Rowling has frequently spoken out against radical trans activism, which has divided her fan base.
